Does anyone know what I could add to plaster of paris to increase its strength? I'm trying to make coasters with it, but alone it's much too weak..

well you could try shredded fibers to keep it from breaking apart, but that won't really make it stronger.

And you could dip it in paint. Elastomeric paint which is rubbery and thick or several coats of polyurethane.

Thanks for the suggestion.. I thought about the fiber idea, but it doesn't help stop the corners and such from chipping off.. The paint's a really good idea, because it would relieve the pressure on the material somewhat...

Have you tried casting resin as an alternative for making coasters?
It's really great.
It may not be waht youare looking for but it's worth a try.

Otherwise, I'd say just coat it with something strong
