Wow, i didn't see any subject headers about Maine, am i the lone person from Maine floating around here?
There isn't much in my neighborhood, but good shops in Southern Maine...

By Beth On 01/01/01

Upstate New York and Newfies have popped in from time to time. I'm not from Maine, but spent lots of time around Freeport & Pownal many years ago.

Whereabouts in Maine are you?

By megglebug On 01/04/01

I'm about 5 hours north of Portland on the eastern border with Canada. I live in a very small town in a rural county. Not a whole lot floating around up here.

hi, meggle!

I grew up in Kittery and live in NH now...and went to school at UMaine Orono....let me know if you get south anytime...

By megglebug On 01/05/01

Hey..
I went to UMO for a semester...taking some time off right now to figure out what exactly it is that i want to do. I have tons of friends who go to UMO and visit at least once a month, though that's the only time i ever leave Aroostook County, which is a shame!

Hey, my ex went there, oh, '72 to '76 or '75. Music and Education double major. Summa cum laude.

I don't expect any of you ladies knew him? <ggg>

By Kess On 01/09/01

I was there 88-92...whoops.

hi there, i was a little surprised to see a maine thread. i'm from jefferson, near augusta. i was an undergrad atumo for three years, my sister's there now. i've lived in tucson for a couple of years now, but once i finish up law school here i'd like to move back. i never appreciated maine all that much until i started travelling and matured a bit. now i can't wait to get back!

i live in kittery and work in portsmouth at the friendly toast! southern main rules, but doesn't have nearly enough thrift shops. i am from n.j. origonally and i have a 3 day route there, but the pickins are slim around here. the antiquing is great, though. if there are any interested parties, perhaps a thrifting trip together could be arranged...

Hi-I agree. I live in Acton which is northwestern York county. We have a few goodwills here and around, and that satisfies me for a while. Try Kennunbunkport for consignment shops. There is also a business down there that is so different. He picks up all sorts of odd things out of old houses like doors with stained glass in them, old lighting fixtures, an outrageous assortment of brass and glass doorknobs that are my passion. I think this shop may be in Kennebunk, though. It is real near Tom's of Maine. I am originally from Westchester County, New York. (Thirty minutes north of the big apple) My mom lives on the Barnegat Bay in NJ, and my other sister is in Island Heights. She is near SeaSide, as a point of reference. Maine is different from NJ, but it has some wonderful reasons to stay. I stayed in Kittery while I was looking for my house. Small world!! I like to make trash into treasure if you have any ideas, I'm game!!!

Good heavens, stroger, I'm up in Dover, NH--ten minutes from you!

We should go to the Rochester Salvation Army store...honestly, they RAWK!

By stroger On 02/03/01

kess, hey, why not? and while we are at it, the somersworth g.w. is only a mile or two away.
happylady, i love going to kennebunk and arundle (sp?), antiques usa is the best. i need to find more junk shops/barns, etc.
i went to the portsmouth g.w. the other day and there was absolutely nothing. finding church thrift shops around here is soooooo hard, i miss those alot, but i still do ok.
email me is you would like to set up a thrift rendezvous in the future.

By happylady On 02/04/01

Lets get some web searching going for some church or thrift shops, stuff or consignments, are there any little newspapers, yeah, the smart shopper.,and keep me posted if you are going thrifting. Kess too!!! I will look up salvage as well--watch, I'll find a 90' sunken boat or something!!!! Here's to the uber lord. My bear is uber bear. He's a love. Why we could try to do a seacoast clothing swap too, might be fun.

Wait until spring, my dears...then Operation Blessing in Portsmouth starts having its yard sales...and WHOOHOOO!!!!

By Beth On 02/06/01

Okay, now this is pissing me off. I love New England! And here I am in Florida looking for missing ballots...

Do it grrrls! Make me feel vicariously proud to be an ex-Downeaster.

By happylady On 02/07/01

You'll always be a downeaster. Please drop us a line when you come up again. Be prepared to freeze when you do. I spent only one year in Florida, and when I got back up North I was shivering at anything under 60 degrees, whereabouts in Florida are you? It is quite a change, isn't it?? I had fun in Florida, though.

By happylady On 02/07/01

Kess, lets all storm Portsmouth!!! Love that little city any day!! You out there too,Stroger???

By Kess On 02/07/01

When would you like to go? I must admit, most of Portsmouth's better scrounge spaces were Urban Renewed out of existence, but we could meet there, and proceed to bead shops or RP Fabrics (fabu discount fabric store...awesome) or even up to my neck of the woods in Dover, where there are some good "find stuff" places...

What do you think?

By happylady On 02/09/01

I think that is a great idea. I like to do beading and I am not real good at it--nothing fancy but I have a good eye for nice beads. Why don't you email me and we can see what we'd like to do. I am coming from Acton, so, we can really start from anywhere along 16, right?
