thanks

(I'm assuming this is a chair with padding and fabric. )

Do you mind potentially trashing the chair? I'd try recovering it with new fabric. New fabric covers a multitude of sins!

Now, full disclosure. I haven't actually done this -myself-. But, my Mom has recovered tons of furniture, and I've watched her.

Basically, Pin the main parts first, (i.e., get your fabric over the seat, the back, etc.) then tack it down with a staple gun (or tacks, if that seems to work better). It's not that difficult if you go slowly, and intuitively, and use a needle and thread to tuck down anything that doesn't quite fit at the end.

trilobite, that is so funny! i've never done it either, but i've seen my mom do it a zillion times, too. never really thought about it till one day a friend called and asked "do you think you've seen you're mom reupholster stuff enough times that you could come and do my sofa for me...?" i found this very funny as well.

tee hee!

or do a variation, and put elastic on fabric that is the basic shape of the chair back and seat...sorta like a toilet seat cover. or do a martha stewart slip cover.

you can make a slipcover... like the kind you see on dining chairs... I have seen it done and it looks pretty nice.
