Just saw these bad-ass resin-encapsulated stuff bracelets:

(For those not bothering with the link, they're stuff like tiny doll heads coated in EnviroTex in an ice cube tray and attached to each other to make a bracelet.)

I'm good to go working with EnviroTex, but can't figure out how she got the bracelet hardware (the wires connecting each cube) to work. Did she put it in while the resin was still resin-y, and if so, how'd she keep 'em straight? Any ideas? Has anyone tried this?

i love those bracelets. im not of any help though i have no idea how to work with resin. i'd love to learn though. it seems like a fun medium to work with.

i'm sorry i'm not much help on this one, but could you telkl me about the resin stuff? how do you work with it where do you get it ect. it looks awsome!

You can find it at Michaels Arts and Crafts or most other craft stores. Look in the section where they have the glues and glazes. It's usally on the bottom shelf somewhere. All I gotta say, is follow the directions EXACTLY on the package, otherwise your crafty tearsdrops will be falling onto the gooey good-for-nothing-if-you-mix-it-wrong unset resin.

It looks like maybe ice cube trays were used to make the bracelets?? Regardless, they are way cool...

I'm guessing that the bracelets were done in two layers and the wire bits were put in after the first layer had set enough to support them. But the instructions on the can will tell you all about layers anyway, so the only advice I have for you is not to worry too much at first about creating a good product, resin is tricky to get right and the first thing you make will probably suck so don't use all your primo barbie heads on the first shot! you sort of have to get a feel for how much catalyst any given thing is going to need (It varies wildly on thickness, size, and even outside temp and humidity, and you do want to do this outside, resin reeks) and the instructions on the can really arn't that good. So take notes, be prepared for a few failures, and you should evetually get around to the bracelt you want!

here's some info on resin casting
www.diynet.com (ok, this stupid link is being difficult, go to DIYnet and search for resin casting)
and she probably drilled into the resin once it was cured and added the hardware.
cheers

I'm sure you're right, gadgetgirl. It should be way easier to drill and screw in the hardware than to figure out some way to do it in layers. How would the resin cube fit back into the mold if the hardware is sticking out the sides?

hey ya'll....
just make your entire cube....pop it out when it is set and drill a diagonal hole through the whole thing. make sure to get sturdy jump rings cause the resin cubes are heavy and will pull them apart.
best,
tina

wow those are so neat. kind of gaudy but still amazingly cool. I'd wear them every where though.

Hey sparklecraft! Welcome to glitter! This isn't the first time your site has been discussed. I see you added the First Ladies of Country...I want one! but, alas, I am broke.

Very cool, though!

Thank you so much! I just discovered Glitter recently. It is totally rad!

P.S. My friend Jennifer from naughtyscretaryclub.com is actually the genius behind the resin cube bracelets :)

The idea of resin items seemed really cool until I read this. Hilarious! (if not a bit scary!)
