hey gals

There weren't many threads going on so I thought I'd show you guys what I made today:>http://www.angelfire.com/art2/fuzzymelimonkey/magnets.html
just some marble magnets and wrapt pendants. I got the idea for wrapt marbles when I went to Borders last night and was reading through the crafty books. I do that often, and never buy anything but coffee. I kinda feel bad, but I always go home inspired and with new ideas! So feel free to do the same from me-- and please email me if you have questions about anything on my site >http://www.angelfire.com/art2/fuzzymelimonkey
or if you just wanna chat about it!

very cute, meli!!!
i had a question about your lamp-my grandma just happened to be buying sculpey yesterday, and i was telling her about your lamp...you said you used transluscent sculpey, but the only translucent i saw was...well...translucent! :) just like clear, with no tint...did you just take that and mix some colored sculpey with it for tint, or did you buy colored and i just somehow missed in in the display?

I used translucent sculpey and then blended it with a couple different shades of purple, that is why there is variation from one hole to the next. if you want flat color you can mix it thoroughly. Also, fimo brand carries translucent colors, I think they have red, orange, blue, green, and yellow. They work really well but are not as "see-though" as the stuff I used on my lamp.

um, dont feel bad for not buying from borders. corporate bookstores suck.

I have to agree with you there. I like to go because it's close by and a good place to just sit and read, but they don't have any of the books I like. I like to shop at used book stores.

me too! the people that work there are always so informed, and you can find GEMS for $5!

My guy and I collect vintage books, he collects space books, I collect craft/sewing/knitting type books. It's so cheap, and fun to find cool old stuff!

with coffe shops in em they beg to be exploited, anyway.

By fuzzymelimonkey On 10/09/01

absolutely! I just take all my books to the coffee area, learn a few new techniques, get some ideas, put the books back, and go home! Yay! It's much closer than the library(which I do have to start making use of soon)

meli- you put your books back, even? you're a model citizen!

(i've heard that the business idea behind borders and barnes and noble is to give you comfortable chairs and tables and coffee so you'll get comfy and read for hours with no pressure. theoretically you'll become loyal to their stores and when you finally decide to buy something, you'll go there. but i think that just doing step one of their plan is swell, too!)

ps- i thought of that black and white dress of yours i covet today when i was at the thrift store- i found this beautiful pleated taffeta ball gown that made me gasp and rescue it from the shelter. although it isn't even my size. i just needed it. to admire, and then find some good use for. it's so lovely, it's practically sculpture.

when I find an amazing dress I buy it, whether or not it's my size. I am acquiring a small collection of the coolest dresses in the world! :)

I took pics of part of my costume last night. Let me know what you guys think!

oh how chic! I think you should just wear that outfit around after halloween. Where did you find your corset?

I got it from Victoria's secret-- much as I hate to admit that! Paid way too much. But I made the skirt, the hat, and the "sleeves", and got the boots for $7.00 at wet seal, so I guess that makes up for it!
Yay!

meli, i'm quite taken by the necklaces at the bottom of your page with just the little coiled loop for hanging... so simple and lovely! which thread was this you got the idea from? how did you stick the coil to the (i'm guessing flat) marble? pretty :) i especially like the fruit one.

well, I forget which thread-- sorry! I think it was "marble magnets revisited", but anyway, I glued the image to the marble, then glued another marble to the back of the image. When it was all dry, I wrapped the wire up the crease between the two marbles, and formed the top loop, and wrapped the ends with wire to finish it off. I have made ten since yesterday-- it is super easy and ends up looking cool. I think it would be nice hanging from hemp or leather cord, too!

By shuttrrbug On 10/09/01

yeah, did you glue it or what? i thought those were great. [like all your projects:)]

By fuzzymelimonkey On 10/09/01

thanks sweets!
I didn't glue it, I actually just sort of tied it around... because there are two marbles, flat sides together, there is a ridge in-between where the wire sort of sits and stays. I will try to take a picture to show you just exactly what I mean, cuz it's hard to explain--sorry!

[i should just make one. im a dork.]

meli- will you re-post the picture of the flower-sculpey beads on your site? i desperately want to rip those off, they're so adorable.

[forgive me if you already have, i can't get any picture-heavy site to load on this computer...]

By fuzzymelimonkey On 10/10/01

I will gladly repost it, gimme a day or two, I am going away for the day today! I'll put up just those couple of pictures and post the link here!
