i want to make a fleece scarf for the wonter. I bought the material and it looks pretty easy, but does anyone have direction s, tips, or suggestions? Thanks.

Since fleece doesn't ravel, do you have do do anything to it? I was wondering about this, too, since there's some really pretty fleece at the fabric store- one is white with black leafless trees, plus there are some cool plaids.

i've made some by blanket stitching all around the edges, which is pretty easy. fold the all the sides in twice to hide the raw edge, then blanket stitch with embroidery floss.

also, you can slip a bead onto the needle with each stitch, if it is for you, and you don't mind it being not as soft on the edges, it will add a bit of sparkle! I just can't leave anything alone!

you don't even need to fold the edges under, if you don't want to. to avoid any stitching, you can cut the scarf out with pinking shears.

I think I might use this idea for Xmas gifts this year-- cheap and easy. Yay!

The problem with blanket stitch is that it's 1-sided. It might be easier to do a 2-sided decorative stitch with the machine, although I guess you'd have to baste it if you wanted to fold the edges.

You could also put 2 pieces together, sew right sides together, then turn it inside out like on this baby blanket on Martha Stewart's page. I can't find microfleece, though.

I have a couple fleece scarf links:

One of them is no-sew. I love fleece, especially hats.

Thanks for all the tips. I've seen types were you can either do blanket stitch or cut fringes. Is there a way I can do both? Anyone know?

whee!

Kitty: what fabric store did you see said fleeces at? They sounded cool!

Le generic fabric store- Hancock Fabrics. They had piles and piles of fleece.

I bet there are better stores in Dallas. Houston has the *best* fabric stores. They're downtown, in the Vietnamese section. HUGE. I will be going there Oct 5, just days after payday.... heh heh heh.

Hmm, i'll have to look into Dallas fabric stores now...I don't *really* sew so i never really go....but if nothing else i bet i could find cool ribbon and buttons etc. :)
