my friend and i are starting to make a bunch of stuff, and on top of that she's in ceramics in college and will be making tons of pottery this year (they're working on production and she has to make 50 mugs by monday and then plans on selling them). my question is, where do we well stuff? do any of you sell your things? i'm not sure how to go about this.

This is my best advice on selling your work...

Whatever you do for money, let it be something you enjoy the process of and can do with some efficiency. Keep your costs down. Consider how much time it takes to make something when you price it: your time is valuable. Also beware: ALmost every craft I have sold I have eventually gotten SOOO sick of, I just couldn't stand it anymore. Thats sad! Keep a few projects just for YOU!! It sucks when crafting becomes a burden, and its always good to have something to turn to just for fun and self satisfaction.

i run a diy distro and maybe i could buy a few of your peices and sell them mail order if you send me some more info...

Definately try eBay, I bet you could them on there! Also check out your local area for funky shops that sell handmade items. A lot of time coffeehouses carry stuff like that. Drop off a sample for the owner/byer, with an eye-fetching business card tied to the mug so they'll be mesmerized to you call you back asap. Also, maybe there is some sort of festival coming up where you could sell them at too! Good luck!

turns out my friend needs to smash all 50 of her mugs. so that she "doesn't get attached" to her work. what a waste of clay.

but we still have a bunch of other stuff to sell (clothing and belts). thanks for the ideas

aww that's sad, i seriously wouldn't want to smash my work, i mean i see what the lesson is but i don't know if i'd do it or not lol, i also recommend ebay, it's easy and you make more money that way bc you get competitive bidders like myself that get addicted :)

Yeah, that's silly. It's true that she can always make more once she's learned how to do them, and it's important to know that so that you don't get too precious about the miracle of your creation, but that whole excercise seems a little sadistic & pretentious. I think she should sell all of them so she doesn't get attached. Either way, they're gone. This way she's rich, too.

She could always turn them into something else, like a mosaic thing!! Then she would have a cool story to share about the history of the ceramic pieces...

crafty chica-
I love the mosiac idea. That way the manditory smashing doesn't seen like such a waste. Good luck on selling your stuff xmel.

thanks galaxy girl!

my friends teacher is being tough.. they have to smash them in front of her, into a garbage. no keeping anything, althought the mosaic would've been fun.
