this coincides with the clothes in movies thing. i just saw sweet november (bleh) and loved charlize theron's apartment. i find that i'm really drawn to movies that have cool apartments ....do you guys have suggestions for other movies?

I really like the Friends apartment. Mostly the color and the pictures on the wall.

In The Score (meh) Robert Deniro has a great apartment and jazz club. Just my style (if I could ever afford it.)

i have always loved mary's apt in there's something about mary. it is the colors. i wish i could paint my walls. boo hoo.

Jimmy Stewart's apartment in Vertigo is so beautiful. Remember, it has the unreal skyline of san francisco with twinkling fakey christmas light. John Forsythe has this amazingly decorated apartment in the movie of the Courtship of Eddie's Father that is so perfect. I just watched one with Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson called Magnificent Obsession, and there's some very good fifties decorating in that. And sexy Rock Hudson renovates an old mill for them to live in - it's so pretty, you would just die.

The boys' apartment in Shooting Fish is really ...different. But I like it. It's crafty.

Well, it's not from a movie, but as a kid I used to obsess over Jamie Sommers' (Bionic Woman, for those who remember) pad located not above-garage but I think it was above a barn or something. It got me completely into the compact-living style, though I never found an efficiency that could compare...

I seem to remember Janeane Garofalo's, as well as Uma Thurman's, neighboring apartments in "Truth About Cats and Dogs" as having cool furnishings, balcony w/ potted palms sort of thing.

The beachside cottage William Hurt lived in in "Children of a Lesser God" is awesome, with beadboard walls and lots of little wall-mounted lamps, there's one scene where Marlee Matlin's going around turning each one on while they're arguing. I can't remember the argument, just swooning over the cottage.

I know I'll think of dozens of others... mostly from independent films. "Truly Madly Deeply" featured another 'Jamie,' played by Alan Rickman in my favorite role of his EVer, whose lover Nina had a fantastic "flat," I thought. And this thread is going to make me rent "Unbearable Lightness of Being" again just because I could swear one of those characters had a cool place to live.

Older, non-fancy old houses like Carrie Moss's in "Memento" and Bruce Willis' in "Unbreakable" get to me, too.

Annie Potts apartment in "Pretty in Pink"!!!!! In Chinatown, with black and white checked floors and crazy colored walls, it was my high school ideal.

The whole house in "Benny & Joon"...i just watched it again today and i want a big blue comfy couch in a painting room overlooking a stream/river.

I <3 Angelina Joli's apartment in Playing By Heart. The bedroom is kinda odd, but the living room is super awesome, with the paley pastel colors. I love the green gingham-ish curtains and the old books piled on the floor. Plus the phone is way vintagey awesome :)
