I have two darling nephews (ages 2 and 4)with another (hopefully a neice) on the way. I would like to make them gifts for Christmas and birthdays. I am working on a chalk board for the older one. Any ideas on toddler friendly DIY gifts?

I just saw that they make temporary tattoo paper for computer printers!!!! :)

My nephews love these (and my mother-in-law gets super-grandma points for being the one that got them hooked) & that's what I'm making them for Xmas! :) They're 4 & 7.

You could cover a magnetic board with fabric, and make big chunky fun-shaped magnets for the toddlers out of wood, cardboard wrapped in fabric, or felt. You could make the shapes themed (like ocean life or something) so they could make little stories or scenes on the board. (Make sure that the all the magnet pieces are too big to be swallowed, of course.)

wow, great idea caley!

along the same lines, you could just make a felt board and cut out the shapes of people (out of felt), and then make clothes for them so they can dress them up!

you could also sew one of those cloth baby books for the younger one, or an alphabet book for the 4 year old, embellished with lots of zippers and buttons, ect.

I have several little boys ages 2-6 that I'm making Christmas gift bags for. I put in coloring books, crayons, stickers, plastic dinosaours, and hot wheels. For the little girls ages 5 months -1 year. I'm knitting baby blankets.

i think art supplies are the best gift. you can pick up plastic milk-type crates or buckets at a dollar store, and fill them with paints, paper, crayons, etc. i know it's not a crafty gift, but it inspires craftiness, which is just as good.

for a baby, a blanket or crib quilt would be nice. toddler type kids really like lacing sets made out of thin boards with holes drilled in them, and colorful shoelaces. for an older child, you could put together a kit of wood scraps, a hammer and nails, and some paint so they could build a creation. another gift for an older kid could be a learn-to-knit or crochet kit, or an assortment of nice beads, with a needle and thread.

I absolutely love those fabric activity books for little kids. You know, like velcro the face parts onto the face, tie shoes, zip up zippers, etc. My mom made me one when I was a baby, and I still have it... I think there is one featured in the pictures section of getcrafty as well. My mom tells me that places like Simplicity make patterns for those books, but I decided to just make one on my own. I'm working on it now for my baby cousin for Chanukah.
