I've been rejected from my first choice college (The College of William and Mary). I knew it was a long shot, because they get like 10,000 applicants for 1300 spots, and they take more people from in-state than out-of-state (it's in Virginia, I live in Indiana), but it is still kind of tough to take. Why didn't they want me? :(
So, now I am going to Indiana University, a good school but it's HUGE and NOT William and Mary.

I am sure some of you have faced rejections like this, or have good advice...How did you get over your rejection? Is there any way to make this feel better?

Thanks a lot, you glitter people are great :)

i suggest simply not taking it personally. it's not about you. it's about their requirements and their committee. you never know who is reading the essays and what they are looking for. they are human and biased and possibly quirky. i'm sure your application was lovely. but maybe it just wasn't a good "fit" with what they were looking for and as you mention, they have sooo many applications!
(i found out long after the fact, that one of my grad. school applications was LOST by the committee so i didn't get accepted to that school...)

and i imagine you will love college no matter where you go. maybe it's just fate. your best friend for life may be going to Indiana and you would never meet her if you didn't go there too... or maybe your soulmate and life partner is at Indiana and this is just the stars bringing you together. or the professor who will change the way you think about the world and inspire you to follow a passionate career is at Indiana. For whatever reason, it seems that is where you are meant to go...

It's not about you. There are so many factors that go into the selection process . . . it's got nothing to do with you. Seriously.

Thanks everyone, you are helping me feel better already :) i will work on not taking this "rejection" personally...plus i like the idea of being meant to be at Indiana instead of WM... :)

And yes, lucky, I am another indiana glitter! I'm fromt "east central", about an hour northeast of Indy and very close to Muncie (home of Ball State University).

If it's any consolation, I know a number of people who went to W&M and none of them seem to be all that happy with life in general.
