do you know anyone (via any number of friends, relatives, etc) famous?
I grew up in Seymour, Indiana - where John Mellencamp grew up. He spoke at a convo my sr year in HS. My dad played guitar with Larry Crane, and both my parents know Larry Crane's mom. It was her birthday last Saturday because there was a yard card in their lawn. I wonder if Larry stopped by... or John?
I played hockey with Cammi Granato, Chris Bailey, and Lisa Brown-Miller (olympic gold medal winners in 2000).
My dad went to school with Al Gore.

Ok this is a long weird one...my old boss looks *just* like James Spader. When he went to college, he showed up at his dorm and his new roommate who he had never met said, "James, what are you doing here?" Turns out the roommate actually was friends with James Spader and my old boss looked so much like him that it fooled him!

Greg Dulli of The Afghan Whigs bought me and my bf two tickets to the South Park movie b/c he was mad that we hadn't seen it (my bf worked with his manager).

i'm only 3 degrees from kevin bacon (my dad knows his dad--or is that only 2?). people at my office were very excited about that.

i know an ex-lemonhead as well (but he left the band before it got famous)...he was a professor at my school--and he reviewed my admissions file!

I don't know if this counts, but a friend of mine is a grad student who works in the lab of a well known physicist. She knows a handful of Nobel Laureates on a first name basis.

a kid i went to high school with is in the movie school of rock (he's the guy that takes jack black's character's place in the original band). i wasn't really friends with him or anything, but recognized his name in the credits and imdb'ed him, and sure enough.

for some reason i thought this was going to be about friendster.

my mom used to be alan greenspan's interior decorator, but that's really before he was famous.

other than that i had an acting teacher that was in the movie school ties and he knew nancy wall who was on Saturday Night Live at the time.

Oh and I had a classmate who was an extra in the same movie and also was featured on the date phone game, you know that pink phone where you called a cute guy? He was "scott" although that's not his real name. Actually it's funny, i took the box out at a thrift shop to show my friend so we could laugh and he was on the cover!

lol my best friend in second grade was in love with "Scott" from that game. He was a daily lunch topic.

lost, that's great! You should make her watch school ties and see if you can spot him for the .5 sec that he's in there, he's literally on screen for an instant when they show the whole hall of boys sitting in the lecture hall.

I think he was also in some commercials but I don't remember if they ever aired b/c they were for the 'super soaker' and that's back when they outlawed them b/c people were filling them with bleach etc.

Oh and I also know a kid who was on the show ghostwriter, but I never saw the show, we met in college and he told me, oh and I suppose it's kind of famous that he's the brother of MTV's gideon yago.

I know lots of people who know Jimmy Carter, including my sister (who used to lifeguard at the Boys and Girls Club he founded in Plains, GA) and my high school best friend, whose sister is married to his pastor's son. But that's just because I'm from the town next to the town he's from, and small towns in Georgia are just like that.

In 1998, my aunt and oncle had an exchange student from Jamiaca living with them, and he knew DC Talk i some weird manner, something with them being there on vacation or something... I was SOO impressed back then! :D
- But none of my friends cared when I told them, guess they didn't believe it! :p

I grew up around the corner from and went to school with Leigh Nash the lead singer of Six Pence None the Richer. I don't know if anyone is even familiar with them.

I worked with a girl that was an extra in a movie with Demi Moore (who was in a movie with Kevin Bacon) (ha-ha)

I had a thing with a guy who was college buddies with Evan, from While You Were Out.

A friend of mine in college had a fling with Kyan from Queer Eye.

I used to take yoga classes from the former bassist of the Black Crowes, Johnny Colt (I just love to say his name, it's so rock star). I also have a co-worker who is old friends with him and his wife.

ETA: I also have a friend who recently started practicing at an entertainment law firm. So far he's only gotten to meet Hulk Hogan, but we have high hopes of getting backstage with Robert Earl Keen one day.

I've met Tom Hanks and Elton John wrote me a letter when I was 12.

My friend knows a guy who used to kind of date Natasha Lyonne (American Pie) - Natasha actually invited this guy to come to Prague to hang out with her while she was filming, and to pay for his flight but, typical melbourne loser hipster that he was, the guy was all 'errr i don't know, i'll have to see' and never went.

And my friend in London sometimes chats with Jude Law and Jimmy Mistry as they are regulars at her local pub.

Oh, and I had a one night stand with a scottish kids tv presenter a few years ago whose name completely escapes me but he was an arrogant arse and really bad in bed so I don't know if that counts or not. hee.

Can I just add....caropop...I am so damn jealous. I want to have a fling with Kyan!!!

My friend's little brother was Natalie Portman's dance partner.

When I worked for the director of an art center I met Martin Scorcese, Lorna Simpson, and Ann Hamilton. (not like they would remember our fabulous encounter though:(...) I also talked to Frank Gehry on the phone for a while when he once called. I know they might not be pop culture icons but it was still cool to meet people who's work I admired.

Finally, I accidently hit Sting with a lawn chair before a concert back in '92. My friend worked for the ampitheater and let us come through the back gate. We had to walk on across this tiny bridge over a ditch and "bam!" I was so humiliated but he was really nice about it.

I know Susan Sarandon's youngest brother and worked with the father of Casey Affleck's best friend (he sounded so cute when he talked about Ben and was very worried about him - this was back in the rehab days).

My friends friends dad shared an apartment for about a day with Liam Neeson they where students
