Topic graphic art- laptop or desktop pc? Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

I'm going to be in the market for a new computer and I really want to get a laptop. What I want the computer for is to finish my large collection of lineart that I have saved to a cd. They are all in b&w because I don't have a personal computer to save them on. My question is if a laptop would be enough to do large amounts of art on and if laptops have that hyper threading technology I see on desktop pcs?
ps. I've been drawing with traditional media for years but I'm fairly new at CG art.

A laptop can do eveything a desktop can. The only thing is the screen space. With a larger monitor that you might have on a desktop, there is more room for all the menus that you would have open using graphics programs and still have room to work. That said, I have been using a laptop for my graphics stuff for about a half a year now since I haven't bought a new desktop yet, and it has been a little annoying, but I work around it without too much effort. I got a wireless modem connection too and it's great to be able to bring the computer anywhere around the house to do my work! I think(??) you could also just get a separete monitor and attach it to the laptop if you want the extra screen space.

If I get a laptop I'm also getting the wireless modem. It sounds like a dream to be able to go online wherever I want in the house! I think I will go ahead and get a laptop because I really don't like being tied to one spot when I'm work on the computer. What kind of laptop do you have, pomly?

We got a Toshiba. I really like it but it is the only laptop I have ever had. My Dad got a Toshiba recently too and he likes it as well. I think there was another thread on here somewhere about people saying what kinds they had and if they liked them.

i think if it's easier and more convenient, then get the laptop.

i do alot of graphics and webstuff and couldn't imagine using a laptop though. i need the extra monitor hookup and the table space which always gives me something hard to anchor on when drawing etc.
