Topic Stitching Fabric to Fairly Open Crochet Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

I just finished this cute little crocheted scarf, but the yarn I used is itchier than I expected. I want to figure out some way to stitch some coordinating fabric to one side of it. I thought I could just hand stitch it somehow, like lining a crocheted bag, but the crochet of this scarf is fairly loose/open so there's not a lot to stitch it to. Does that make any sense?

Any ideas would be fantastic!

hey darling!

i would use ribbon as a border on the opposite side and stitch the lining to that (and the crochet)

a long shot...

have you washed it? Sometimes just getting the finished thing wet, and adding a little hair conditioner, can make a big difference. No need to soap or shampoo, just soak with the conditioner for 10-15 minutes then drain and dry!

But that ribbon idea sounds really swell too.

Yay, those are both awesome ideas! I'm going to try washing it first b/c if that gets rid of the itchies then I'm all set. And if not, then I'll move onto the ribbon, I like that!

Or tack the fabric to bits of the crochet with thread that you put thru one time(like a 'U' thru the crochet) and tie it off.Do it in several places and your done.

I tried the conditioner, and it did soften the yarn up somewhat -- great tip! It's still a little itchy though (but smells nice, mmm...Suave...).

I like the simple tack idea, DeborahM! I think I'm going to go ahead and hem up the fabric I want to use and attempt the tacking. And if that doesn't work or look the way I want, I'll go all-out and try the ribbon. Dang it, this scarf is going to get done eventually! :)
