By geekychic On 02/28/04

so it's the weekend and sometiems i take my pill a little late (oops)...today i woke up about three hours after i usually do during the week and i was crampy and a little bloody when i wiped, but my period isn't due for a week.

would taking my pill three hours late cause this?

i'll proably talk to someone at the planned parenthood, but i was tryig to get some fast answers and you girls are known for it!

i don't think taking it three hrs late would do that. i've missed pills or taken them at night with no side effects. the bleeding thing happened to me once before, i couldn't attribute it to anything, so i just figured that these things just happen sometimes.

I'm on Depo, so I never get my period. I was on the pill for several years also though. One thing you might consider is stress. If you've been under any amount of stress lately it could make you bleed like that, or it could be a completely normal but random thing. Twice now, currently actually, I've been under a considerable amount of stress and bled like crazy.

And I'm not saying ignore it, but don't worry about it too much, and see what they say at PP.

if you usually take it at exactly the same time, and your body is very sensitive, it could be b/c you took it late. if you are concerned you should call your doctor and ask her opinion.

How long have you been taking the pill? After I had been taking it for a few years, I started to get "mini periods" inbetween my regular periods. I never noticed anything wierd happen from a few hours off though.

I don't think that taking your pill a few hours late once should make you start your period early. what it might be, however, is breakthrough bleeding, which might mean that it's time to change pills? call up pp, though. I am far from being a doctor.

thanks all!

i kinda didn't think it was because i took it late. but i don't know. i was on a very low estrogen pill a while back and i just kept bleeding all the time so i don't know.

didn't get to talk to anyone at planned parenthood today, but i'm not super duper worried. more confused and annoyed.

one more thing that is weird and probably way more than anyone needs to know...is it's really brown. like "old blood" or something. i dunno.

anyway thanks!

it's called "spotting" - which is when you bleed a bit in between your periods. i had it all the time when i was on the pill. i kept on switching pills to try to make it stop, but you need a high progesterone pill (i think) to decrease the chance of spottiness, and those guys made me ker-azy.

spotting is nothing to worry about, it's just annoying.

so if this keeps on happening, you could talk to a doctor about switching to a pill with different hormone levels than the one you are on.

i'm on ortho tri cyclen lite or low or whatever it's called. and i will actually get my period if i take the pill 3 hours late. even a week before i get to the placebos. it must be because of the low dose, it never happened before i was on these.

i can't stand it, but i guess the lower dose is better for you.

My answer to your question is "Yes." This happens to me on the low-dosage pill. Are you on triphasil? (I'm on the generic version).

Yes, it's weird, crampy, and annoying, but I'm guesstimating if you use a backup method you should be fine. Check your info insert in the pill-pack.

If the cramps get horrible, I find using a showerhead of really warm water on my tummy really helps "spread out" the crampiness and it doesn't hurt so bad. (No bathtub here. A hot bath might work, too.)

This exact same thing is happening to me. I know it's spotting. But I am kinda freaked out cuz because it has never happened before. And spotting can also be an early sign of pregnancy or because of an extra amount of estrogen in your body like when you miss pills and double up. Which I have been doing a lot of lately so i think it is the latter.

it's like beyond spotting today. it's like period time. it's weird. and annoying. i wish i could find a pill that works for me!!! it's making me nuts!

i need to call planned parenthood tomorrow i guess. it's always the third month i'm on a pill things get weird. headaches or bleeding.

when i was on tricycln lo...i bleed for like 15 days!!! so maybe this is just too low for me ::shrug::

thanks for all the input ladies!

sorry for the post hijack but this has been on my mind lately, I keep hearing one thing and then another thing from different sources...does taking the pill raise your chances of developping breast cancer, or not?
