Topic The Stupid Question Thread Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By jodysomething On 02/26/04

We've all got at least one question that we've always wanted to ask, but didn't because we were afraid of looking stupid. So I'm starting a thread where we can all look stupid together, and maybe help each other out! Yay!

I'll be the first to look stupid: Exactly how does one get mp3's off the internet, and how does one make them into cd's? I know there was this one website where everyone was getting free music, but they got shut down. I'm totally out of the loop here.

By none On 02/26/04

i think you're thinking of Napster. Kaaza is another one that's still around, and also Limewire.

not a stupid question, but kind of a random one. does anyone know first-hand of a good product or procedure that reduces scars, or at least fades their dark color? maybe even a good make-up? thanks!

By Glammie On 02/26/04

I'm not sure about actually fading or healing scars, but if you're looking for a heavy duty coverage makeup you can buy at a drugstore, I would try Revlon color-stay. It covers just about anything.

My stupid question: Just how do you pronounce the greek sandwich the "gyro"? My boyfriend and I have been fighting about this one for awhile!

By Kit-Kat On 02/26/04

I've always thought it was pronounced 'G-row'

By peanut On 02/27/04

Gyro:
according to my Greek (you know, Greek citizens, here for school etc) you pronounce it YEE-roh.

By looloo On 02/26/04

What kind of scars? I have this product that is good for stretch marks, and it is actually sold as a leave in hair conditioner. It is called 5% Pathenol Treatment by Lange

By pomly On 02/26/04

The Greek guys at the falafel place by me seem to say "hee-row" for gyro.

I use roxio to make mp3s into cds.

By sexy_secretary On 03/02/04

you can buy mederma, which is supposed to be amazing to reduce scars...

By MonkeyMagic On 02/26/04

According to the signs in all the greek places here, its "yee-row"

By crazybones On 02/26/04

I've heard the "yee-row" pronunciation, and also the "jia-row", but I think the second one isn't the real way.

Does anyone know of a way to make your drains smell nice? My sink drains smell horrid, and I've poured bleach and hot water, and so far, it hasn't really helped much. I even tried baking soda and vinegar, and it made a cool volcano effect, but that's about it.

By Milyssa On 02/26/04

Phlora: my sister was bitten by a dog on her face, and to lighten the scar her doctor prescribed a cortisone tape. you cut it to fit exactly on the scar, and it works wonders! i would recommend looking into that, wear it at night (or during the day too, depending on where the scar is) and you will see extreme improvement :)

Crazybones: does your drain have a garbage disposal too? Cause we always put orange peels down the garbage disposal and it smells really good after that! If it isn't a disposal drain though, I'm not sure what to suggest...

By looloo On 02/26/04

Okay, here is one that I have always wondered about but felt like I waited way too long to ask...

What is the difference between mod-podge and decoupage glue? Is there one?

By XoeCraft On 02/26/04

There is no difference between mod-podge and decoupage glue. mod-podge is decoupage glue.

... I can't think of any dumb questions right now. But I reserve the right to post one at a later date.

For sink smells, I use lemon juice. Just pour or squeeze some in your drain and then wipe a little bit around the drain hole. It should smell fine for a week or so. If you have a garbage disposal, just grind up chunks of the lemon peel in the disposal.
Hope that helps!

By the way, I'm looking for a good recipe for cooked shrimp that kids might like. Any ideas?
Thanks!

For scars: vitamin E and primrose oil, taken internally and also rubbed on the site. My roomie went face-first through her windshield and only has one scar in her hairline (where she couldn't get the oils on well enough).

For smelly drains: I grind up half a lemon, lime, or orange every once in a while. I've also poured 1/2c baking soda followed by boiling water; that will clear out any gunk. It really works!

For gyro: I've always said "gear-oh" and no one's laughed. That I know about.

For d/l music: I don't know, and I'm looking for that answer, too! LOL

No questions of my own that I can think of...

I avoid the whole gyro thing by only ordering from a value meal...

I think kids would like plain old fried shrimp

By Knittinator On 02/26/04

Its definately "yee-row". We have a lot of greek friends in the restaraunt business so thats the only reason I know =)

for downloading music, check out itunes at www.itunes.com. even though it is run by mac there are windows versions, and it's only 99 cents a song! plus you can burn them onto cds with the same program

[if only you could see me blush]
what does S&M stand for? as in the sex related S&M

By dumplinggrrl On 02/26/04

Oh, hey, I just realized I don't know what s&m stands for either, I thought I knew but I was really just using the term with out knowing what the s or m stood for! Now I want to know too. :P

And also, what does 'age of aquarius' mean? Did I even spell it right?

By BethG2 On 02/26/04

S&M = Sadism and Maschocism Basically taking pleasure in giving and/or receiving pain.

How do I cook shrimp, do I just toss it in a frying pan with butter? My mom doesn't eat seafood so I'm clueless.

By ai On 02/26/04

the standard thing is to shell it (cut down the back with scissors), cut off the tail, and peel out the intestine (the black strip down the back). spent a lot of my childhood doing that (i don't think my parents liked peeling shrimp as much as they liked eating it).

By XoeCraft On 02/26/04

The age of aquarius is supposed to begin sometime between 2060 and 2100.

Here is some more info:
" Until recently, the Greek Hipparchus, was given the credit for discovering the procession of the equinoxes. This 25,920 cycle is the foundation for the Age of Pisces which by modern measurement puts each age as 2,160 years long. The procession causes the fixed stars to rise and set against the earth’s solar years so that at the first day of spring, which is the spring equinox, the constellation of Aries no longer rises but the constellation of Pisces does now. In contrast, the Egyptians started their year at the summer solstice when the constellation Orion rose with the sun to mark the beginning of the flooding of the Nile."

Um, yeah. So I don't know what all that means. It's from http://www.accessnewage.com/articles/astro/ageaq1.htm
if you want to learn more.

By nocturne On 02/27/04

I like Soulseek for mp3's>http://www.slsknet.org/
it's free too

No question right now, but I'm sure something will come up...

By VioletKarma On 02/27/04

I think I might have the stupidest of them all. Regarding little boys peeing, like at potty training age, how do they do it? Aren't they too short to be able to stand in front of and pee into the toilet? Or do they just sit when they're little, and as they got older it progresses to standing?
