Topic diet coke with LIME? Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By moon_lemming On 01/26/04

Anyone else tried it yet? It's not totally repulsive, and doesn't taste like Lemon Pledge, like Diet Coke with Lemon does, but I will probably only buy it when I'm in the mood for something weird (e.g. PMS-ing or pregnant).

I'm not sure I understand this great drive Coke has to add citrus to their sodas.

Any thoughts? On soda+citrus, or weird sodas in general?

Personally I think there are so many things that they can do to coke. I didn't really like the lemon coke very well. I did like the vanilla though.
Then again there are only so many things that you can put on a hamburger and McDonald's is still smacking all the crap on their burgers that they can get.
I'm waiting for the frog leg burger, bluck!

I like it! It's like having a wedge of lime in your freshly poured glass of diet coke. It beats diet vanilla coke and works better than diet coke with lemon (or pepsi with vanilla - yeech!). I;m sure the novelty will wear off soon though.

eh i dont like it. to me it just taste like way to fizzy diet coke. i as a diet coke addict for a bit, 1 2L a day and then i stopped cold turkey.
i feel better.

I'm trying to duplicate this with regular Coke, because aspartame=baaaaad.

By moon_lemming On 01/28/04

I don't like the idea of drinking aspartame, but I can't stand the taste of regular non-diet sodas. And with all the bad things I *could* be consuming on a regular basis, I don't think a Diet Coke is all that bad.

I was skeptical at first, because I think that Diet Coke with lemon tastes like it was flavored with a household cleaning product.

But I actually like it with lime, it is like drinking a Cuba Libre without the rum.

Love it! It's like a tiny taste of Cancun right here in my Michigan refrigerator! I love getting a Coca-Lite w/ Lime in Mexico! Good stuff!!

I like it and the introductory price, yet I don't think I like it enough to buy it at regular price.

By invisilurker On 01/27/04

Sorry...that just sounds disgusting.
I hate any diet soda though, and I'm scared of aspartame because I've heard that it actually is a nuerotoxin, and turns to formaldehyde at 98 degrees...which is the temp. our bodies are...
soo..I'd rather just eat normal sugar.

But the lime idea seems like a neat one...if they do it to normal non diet coke, I'd totally try it. I love the Vanilla Coke.

I believe they also have in regular coke. along with
lemon coke
vanilla coke
cherry coke
remeber blue pepsi
and crystal pepsi

cola=boring

There is a lot of mud-slinging on this topic with one side accusing the other of consiracy and the other claiming bad science... The following at least seems to look at both sides of some of the arguements.

MED GROUP DISPELS ASPARTAME RUMORS

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. (AETCNS) -- Recently an article attributed to Nancy Markle about the harmful effects of aspartame has been circulating on the Internet and alarming many consumers. Though none of the symptoms she and her sources have attributed to aspartame have been substantiated in any clinical scientific study, many questions have surfaced about the safety of aspartame, which is marketed as a tabletop sweetener called Equal and used in a variety of foods.

The concern about aspartame was primarily focused on how it breaks down to a simple alcohol called methanol when digested. It has been suggested that the presence of methanol, which converts to formaldehyde, is harmful to the body. What is not mentioned is that formaldehyde is instantly converted to a substance called formate, which is then quickly eliminated by the body in the form of carbon dioxide and water. Methanol is an abundant, naturally occurring compound found in such foods as fruits, vegetables and fruit juices. For comparison, if all of the sugar an average American consumes in a day were replaced by aspartame, it would produce the same amount of methanol as one cup of fruit or vegetable juice.
The article also stated that aspartame is "especially deadly for diabetics." Aspartame is utilized in the body in the same manner for diabetics and non-diabetics. It has allowed diabetics to comply with a balanced diet and still enjoy sweet foods without the dramatic effects on blood sugar levels that table sugar can cause.
Also alleged was that one of the constituents of aspartame, "phenylalanine," can cause changes in the brain and affect behavior, especially in children. As with any food, sensitivity in some individuals can occur. However, extensive studies have found no evidence that aspartame causes harm, even at levels six times greater than what the average American consumes.

The phenylalanine in aspartame is used by the body, just as it is in foods such as meat, dairy products, vegetables and fruits. Adverse effects have only been reported from people with a very rare inherited disease called phenylketonuria, or PKU. This is why a warning to people with PKU appears on all foods containing Equal or NutraSweet.

Since 1965, aspartame has undergone approximately 200 studies to establish its safety. The FDA said that "few compounds have withstood such detailed testing and repeated close scrutiny." The results of these studies have shown that eating products sweetened with aspartame is no different than eating other foods."

I miss Crystal Pepsi- that stuff was good (and I hate sodas)!

By Milyssa On 01/27/04

mmmmmm pepsi blue! That was good stuff :)

By goodluckjen On 01/27/04

I love all the coke derivatives (cherry, lemon, vanilla) but the lime was not tasty to me at all...too...yeuck. But I love frsh lime in water, soda, and just about anything (whisky and tonic, anyone?).

By senorcoconut On 01/27/04

Aspartame=devil's child.
Monsanto is an evil corporation that still swears that it is healthy. Watching my mother suffer from the effects of aspartame, I can say with all certainty that is the work of the devil.

By Vikarious On 01/27/04

It's so yummy.

100% better than the Lemon Pledge flavored diet coke.

By hairdoomama On 01/27/04

I have not tried the lime flavor yet but....when the lemon flaovor came out I bought it on accident and have never been so pissed.Know what I mean?It was the worst feeling to know my dinner would be without a normal flavored d.c.I thought I'd give the lemon flav.a try since I already had it,and I thought it was so bad I called the 800# and asked why. When I found out they had a lime flavor ,I shook my head in disgust.

By vixiousme On 01/28/04

Just tried this today, and it's surprisingly good. I usually hate diet pop, and I dislike Coke, but the diet lime is pretty good. Hmmm... feels like I'm cheating on my love of Pepsi!

By brooksite On 02/12/04

Does anyone remember Pepsi Kona? It was very short lived - probably about 6 years ago or so... I don't know where it was test marketed other than in southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. I was/am a coffee addict so a friend of mine purchased some for me when he visited his parents. It was very strange.

My husband's parents live in Philadelphia and he fell in love with it. He was crushed that it didn't succeed as a cola-variant.

I purchased some coffee flavored syrup for him for xMas. And, though it's not the same, he seems to enjoy the coffee syrup/diet pepsi combination quite a lot.
