Topic yarn stores in atlanta? Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

does anyone know of any good (perferably independantly owned) yarn stores in atlanta? i'm up in the brookhaven area (oglethorpe university: near the intersection of peachtree ne and ashford-dunwoody), and the only close places are wal-mart (ew.) and hancock fabrics which has no selection.

so is there anywhere else?

I'm sure there are more, but the only two I know of in Atlanta are Strings and Strands and Cast on Cottage. I've never been to Strings and Strands, but I've been to Cast on Cottage a few times. She's got a decent selection, but if you're young, expect to be treated like you're a grubby-handed 6-year old. The customer service there is wretched. But that's a whole nother can of worms. :)

If you happen to be interested in a road trip, the Cat's Meow in Athens has excellent customer service, if a somewhat limited selection.

I've been wondering the same thing... thank you. I am going to try Cast on Cottage and Strings and Strands. I am ultra sick of Joann and the evil "W". Here in Alpharetta (BFE) all we have are chains.

Needlenook on Briafcliff and LaVista and Nease's in Decatur right on Ponce

I'm a cross-stitcher so I can't talk much for their knitting selections but they seem to be about the most popular. There's also on Michael's on Piedmont and Sidney Marcus.

Yup, those are pretty much the only yarn stores I've found in the area. There's a wholesale/warehouse type of store in Adairsville, but I haven't scoped it out yet because that's just FAR!

I've always been treated well at Cast on Cottage & I'm only 25. They specialize in natural yarns, but also has a selection of novelty yarns. String and strands in Buckhead (on Weiuca just off Roswell) seems to specialize more in novelty yarns. The folks at Nease's Needleworks are great. There's a smaller selection than at Cast-on, but they're super friendly & willing to special order for you. They've also got slightly better prices, like Cascade 220 is a buck cheaper there.

I haven't tried the other one in the decatur area, yet. Just keep in mind that yarn stores work on banker's hours. I always have to go on Saturday's because they're closed by the time I get off work during the week.

My friend recommended the Needlenook, at the corner of Briarcliff and LaVista...and that's not too far from you, just take North Druid Hills from Peachtree, to Briarcliff.
