Maybe, if I can find a gig. Any job/apt leads are appreciated. I'm also considering Memphis, Portland and any other interesting places.

By heiress On 01/16/04

I hope you're moving to Austin! But I don't know of any good housing/job leads, right now. Sorry!

By ursonate On 01/17/04

Austin is becoming a definite thing. It's time to get the hell outta NYC!

By ad_ho On 01/18/04

Yay! Austin is a great place. If you can afford it, I would recommend moving to the South Congress area. A friend of a friend is an aprtment locator. I don't want to push anything on you, but e-mail me if you want his info. He helped my friend find a place that even lets you paint, and decorate your place as much as you want!
Sorry- small things impress me.

i moved here a year ago, and i love it. there are so many fun things to do that you can only do here.

i don't know of any jobs available right now, but (and i hate to suggest this) if you go to statesman.com you can set up a job search agent with what kind of job you're looking for, etc.

also- www.utexas.edu usually has quite a few job listings. and there's also austinemployment.com and austinjobs.com. oh, and austinchronicle.com.

good luck!

Cool! thanks!

By Snufkin On 01/19/04

That's a new one to me. Usually people move to New York after getting the hell out of Austin.

By ursonate On 01/19/04

I do have a friend who moved there from nyc and despises it, but I've been here for almost 15 years and I'm not getting anything out of it (except for my friends, of course) but higher bills.

By heiress On 01/23/04

for apartments/houses/duplexes check out austin.craigslist.org I got my current place there, and it's great great great.

Dude!

By ursonate On 02/03/04

Does Austin have a warehouse district? You know like how Portland has the Pearl District?

By sarahelizabeth On 02/03/04

yes! austin has a warehouse district. i live there, actually. and, that's where the alamo drafthouse is (www.alamodrafthouse.com).

it's reason enough to move here.

By Hil On 02/03/04

Hey, my crafty friend told me you were looking at moving to Austin. I'm looking for a roommate right now. I've got a 3 bedroom/2 bath house. It would be $500/mo + 1/2 utilities. My roommate would get their own room/bathroom plus parking spot in the driveway. Wahoo! Let me know if you'd be interested!
This website is a good job source. http://www.liaisonresources.com/jobs/index.html

By ursonate On 02/04/04

Actually my friend and her husband work at Alamo Drafthouse. I just didn't know if that area was considered the "official" warehouse district.

By sarahelizabeth On 02/04/04

that's cool about your friends working at alamo. i can walk there from my apartment (yay!).

by the way, that's my friend hil that posted about the room for rent. it's a really cute house and it's within walking distance from downtown (i should know, i and a couple of my friends always meet up there when we go out).

By ursonate On 02/04/04

Yep, I sent her an email last night. Thanks! I have a feeling this is going to be the awesomest move ever!

By Oohlala On 02/05/04

Wow! Austin is a really great place to live! Everyone seems so chilled out, and it's just a beautiful city. I visit Austin at least 2-3 times a year. In fact I'll be going there next week for Valentine's weekend with the girls!

austin360.com is a great website for job postings, weather and entertainment type stuff.

By heiress On 02/13/04

Oohlala, since you'll be in Austin with the girls for V-day weekend, there are a few sales going on if you're interested. Cush Cush is an upscale fabric place (read: overpriced) and they're having a 50-75% off sale. It may be worth it. And there's a store called SoLa on South Lamar that's having a sale, as well. It's clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc.

By i sew vinyl On 02/14/04

Cush Cush has a great selection of yummy trims and such.
eta: but they're closing, having a crazy clearance sale of 60-75% off. I bought one of their fabric racks.

There is also a craigslist for Austin... you might check out Acquent and eLance as well.
