Topic cocoa lip gloss- gross! Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By princessclare On 12/23/03

I made some chocolate lip gloss, and i used cocoa as flavouring, like many people recommended. It's disgusting! I never use it, and I'm gonna have to throw it all out. does anyone know if there's something else I could use for chocolate flavouring? Could i use melted chocolate?

By plainmabel On 12/23/03

Melted chocolate would go bad pretty quickly, so maybe not the best bet. I used a chocolate candy flavoring oil once awhile back. I think it came out ok but I don't quite remember. You can find candy flavorings at some specialty stores and online shops like sugarcraft.com.

Better yet, you could use cocoa butter as one of the solid oil ingredients of the lip balm -- a good emollient and chocolatey-tasting!

i don't know what you should use, but i do know that last week i bought some "junior mints" flavored lip balm that smelled, quite literally, like shit. shit with mint. disgusting. kinda scared me off chocolate lip balm, ya know?

good luck!

pixielily- i know what you mean. junior mint lip gloss really is gross. shit with mint. that cracks me up tho. another thing i hate about chocolate lip gloss is that i'm always scared it will turn my lips brown. but maybe i'm just wierd..

wow..
I'm suddenly increadibly grateful I resisted my impulse buy urge that kept trying to get me to buy that Junior Mint Lip Gloss...it sounds horrid!
Thank you for saving me money!
I wonder if the fruit ones are any good?

By plainmabel On 12/23/03

While we're on the subject of lip gloss warnings, a brief public service announcement: Do not buy, try, or otherwise involve yourself with the Sugar Daddy lip gloss, from the makers of the Junior Mint lip gloss. No one deserves that kind of pain. (Brought to you by the CLGPA, the Crappy Lip Gloss Prevention Association.)

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

thank you for the warnings, I've been tempted to buy the jr mint lip gloss.

I had some mama coco's lip balm samples and one was chocolate, while it tasted good (i think cocoa butter was the culprit), it looked like poo, and it was my friend who pointed that out to me, she said 'ask for chocolate, although i have to warn you that it looks like poo'

heh

plainmabel-- you crack me up!

princessclare-- I'd go with the flavoring oil, too!

By smachel On 12/24/03

i use hershey's kisses. just shave some off with a toothpick and mix in while hot. or if you're making a big batch, throw a couple in.

By outofrange On 12/24/03

yeah, i made chocolate lip balm once and just used 2 nestle toll house morsels...
it turned out yummy but not too gross and it didnt go bad...

By pixielily On 12/24/03

so it wasn't just me! i thought maybe my jr. mints lip balm was from a bad batch, but from what i read here, it sounds like the stuff is just nasty, period. what were they thinking? doesn't *anyone* test this stuff before they market it?!!!

as for using kisses & chocolate chips, that sounds yummy...i may try that after christmas, since i'll have chocolate on hand!

By yardenxanthe On 12/24/03

I have junior mint lip balm, and it's not bad. It's just minty, none of that other odor/flavor you guys mentioned!

By evilpinkbear On 12/25/03

My favourite chocolatey mint lip balm was that lipsmackers stuff...it was like Cocoa Mint something, and it smells like chocolate and mint and tasted good. I never buy stuff like that anymore though.
