Topic how do i make a comforter? Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By whimsical On 07/28/01

i've been looking everywhere for a bedspread to suit my fancy and i can't seem to find one.

so...being the crafty chick i am, i decided to make one with some cute fabric i found. maybe i'll make it reversable.

how would i go about this? the fabric is not wide enough so would i have to cut it into squares and sew all of them together to get the main body, or what? is there any easier way i could do this?

i know i'm going to put batting in between two HUGE pieces of fabric...i just don't know how to make them huge without looking crappy.

thanks.

I think if you look at some basic quilt patterns, you can figure out how to make a comforter. I would think you'd just make it thicker than a normal quilt.

Try quilting.about.com or Simply Quilts at http://www.hgtv.com to get some ideas and tips.

maybe if you don't want to cut your fabric into squares you can cut long strips. what i've been thinking about doing is sewing two peices of fabric together and leaving a an opening to stuff an old comforter into. if you live near an ikea they have any size comforter for $15, even king size! :) that's what i have so it makes me extra happy! anyhow they only sell covers and those $15 fillings, they're nice, they should probably sell for about $50.

i think you should buy a cheap-o comforter at some bargain outlet and then make a comforter cover or buy one and decorate it to suit your fancy.
