I know that this is possibly the stupidest question ever posted, but what are ALL the things you need to attach snaps? I've never used them before, and I'd like to use them as closures on stuff.

Sorry for the stupid question =(

Also, what's something that I could make for 4 guys who are around 20-25 years old? I don't even know them; my friend is doing a gift exchange with people on a forum, and was really busy (and she's not the crafty type), so I offered to make stuff for everyone. I've got almost all the girls covered, I just need to make 3 more bracelets. The guys, on the other hand, seem impossible to make gifts for.

The gifts should be cheap, relatively easy, and EASY TO SHIP. They live in China and New York; not in California. Looong ways to ship, and considering that we're only 13, shipping is expensive.

Thanks in advance!

Needle and thread are all you need.

Tips:
1. Double up your thread, just as you'd do for sewing on a button.
2. Especially if your snaps are big, make an additional "stitch" in the fabric between the holes rather than just running the thread through the holes (I know I'm not explaining that clearly). It looks neater and I think it helps to hold better.

Things to watch out for:
1. If your snaps are very small, be sure your needle is thin enough to fit through the holes in them.
2. Make sure you're sewing the "female" half of the snap on right-side up. I know that sounds like a no-brainer, but it's easy to goof up and always good to double check.

As for the gifts for guys, I think duct tape wallets are a great idea. They're simple and quick to make, and appropriate even if you don't know the guys well. I just learned how to make them, and I made a bunch for my nephews and one more for a guy friend - I'm planning to personalize that one by drawing on it with a Sharpie and sealing the ink in with clear tape.

Thanks for replying, Katrin! But I think we're talking about different snaps. I didn't explain very well about what I was talking about.. The ones that you're talking about are the ones used for sewing little snaps on light fabrics and such. The snaps I'm talking about are right next to the eyelets at Michael's or Joann's. It looks as if they would "snap" closed on the eyelets, but I wasn't sure, so I decided to ask. Thanks for such a quick reply though!

There is a tool that you use to press down on the snap and attach it to the fabric. It looks like a big hole puncher. When you press it together, it clamps the little metal prongs of the snap into the fabric and the other side of the snap piece. Each snap should have 4 pieces, 2 for each piece of fabric that you want to attach by the snap. No sewing involved. It works kind of like a bedazzler. Ask at the store where you saw the snaps. I am not sure exactly what it is called.
