I know we have all been chatting about what we WANT to make for people this year for holiday gifts. That's all fine and good, but I am curious to what you actually DID do. I know I didn't get to everything! Also, how did it compare to what you bought?

This is what I've made so far:
*personalized ornaments
*book for brother
*box of sin for SO
*garden journal for mom

I will add more, hopefully today when I get off this dammed computer!

ETA:
*deer book for dad
*flannel scarf for dad
*scraps of neat paper for sister in law (I took a bunch of my scraps and cut up in good size peices b/c she's a scrapbooker.)
*ALMOST done scarf for friend
*tuna fish can candles (decoupaged) for friend
*set of handmade cards for friend

By SeraAngel On 12/19/03

this is what i was able to accomplish...

*kitchen towels with tie backs for bf's grandparents and friends
*lavender eye pillow for my friend
*terry cloth bibs for my nephew

i ended up buying more than i made because most of the gifts are for young kids

Yay for me! I think I actually accomplished most of what I intended too!
Since I had no cash this year, my plan was to buy something small for everyone on my list and then make something fabulous and crafty for everyone as well. This is what I made:
*a ton of mixed cds
*picture frames
*a music folder for my sister
*some money oragami for the little brother
*treat bags for everyone
*various knitted things for different people
*doll clothes
I did have to cut out a few projects though, like earrings, hair bands, and renovating a doll house...but I still have a few days until Christmas, so who knows!?!

I made my "secret Santa" person a record bowl and filled it with all kinds of magnetized things...I made magnetic poetry, marble magnets (of course) and found a few pics of old playbills that I stuck a magnet to. My sister is getting a set of personalized wine glasses, and I think I might do some journals for my brother.

I just got the package of presents for my family mailed off! Yay, they'll get them in time! What a load off my mind. I made:
- A set of holiday-themed marble magnets for each grandma
- Fleece hat & mitten sets for my sisters
- Duct tape wallets (with money in 'em!) for my teenage nephews & step-nephews
- A little purse (actually, it was part of my Halloween costume) for my niece, age 3½

For my mother-in-law, I started knitting an afghan but the yarn was hard for me to work with, so I had my mom finish it. I suppose that counts partway as something I made, anyway. And for my sister-in-law, I'm knitting a Harry Potter scarf (she requested it). Now that I've got my other gift crafts out of the way, I can spend the next few days working on that.

There were also a couple of projects I didn't get done - so once I finish them, I'll have several birthday presents covered for this year!

Mostly I made hats this year:

Dad- knitted, cabled hat
Sister - knitted, cabled hat
Mom - knit hat from Vogue Knitting
Nephew - knit hat from Vogue knitting, and nose-warmer from knitty
Niece - knit devil horns hat,and nosewarmer.
Secret Santa at work - knit hat
S.O. - nosewarmer

And almost finished, scarf for my mom's husband.

shoooeeee! That's quite a bit of knitting.

My Turn!
I've made 8 crocheted scarfs (one sent to the glitter scarf drive),one handbag, four fleece hats, two stockings-one in a Harry Potter motif for the hubby and one in camo for my cousin.
I also still have to make a crocheting needle holder for my Mom

I made my DH a ton of things...

*cloth covered bulletin board for his office (thanks to get crafty article)
*marble magnets for his file cabinets (thanks to getcrafty again)
*Beatles images trinket box (covered w/calendar cutouts and packing tape)
*customized cloth cd case (originally from 1$ store)
*2 framed collections of Simpsons pogs for his office (he loves the Simpsons: I got the pogs off ebay, and now it's a pop-arty thing)
*shoe bags for his nice dress shoes (fleece scraps)

Yay! I'm so glad I discovered this community--I haven't crafted anything in over a year, but you guys are so inspiring I just had to get going:)

I've only finished one thing so far! Thankfully, with both my family and Mr Crumpet's family, we draw names out of a hat and only have to buy for one person from each side.

I got Mr Crumpet's brother/sister-in-law (who went in together) and bought them a box of classic Sim games. To fancy it up a bit I'm going to make a tote bag to put it in.

On my side of the family I got my sister-in-law of two years. I took photos at their wedding, and recently found a black and white film that I thought I'd lost forever. When those are ready, they'll be going in a gorgeous little box from the Oxfam store (I was going to make a box, but thankfully thought the better of it) on top of a little cushion that I'm going to make from a silk remnant I have.

I've decided to make a little gift for all the kids as well -- mini tote bags. The two girls are getting ones made from cute fake fur (I know they both love furry stuff) and the boys are getting ones made from fun shark flannel.

The one gift I have finished is one I posted in another thread. Mr Crumpet practically lives on Mee Goreng, so I made him this t-shirt (well, I bought the tee and made the stencil!). It's my first stencil ever, and I'm very proud. :)

unfourtunatley I have not made as much as I wanted to this year. Mostly due to the fact that nowhere had what I needed to make things. This is what I have done.

*record cuffs
*denim cuffs
*appliqued scarf

Thats all I can think of right now.

I made a picture frame for my husband; collages for my siblings-in-law; stationery sets for 3 grandmothers; a colored-pencil holder (VERY cool, considered keeping it for myself) for a grown-up cousin who likes to color; a Self-Esteem Jar for my Secret Santa at work; and our Christmas cards.

I had planned on crafting it all but then people started requesting specific items so I did do some shopping. Really, though, that turned out for the best as everything has gotten FAR too hectic and stressful to do much "gift-worthy" crafting in the last two weeks.

By crumpet On 12/19/03

okay, i have one of the mini tote bags done! it is very cute. :) i have another cut out, and am just taking a break before i sew it. :)

By velvet On 12/20/03

I surprised myself by finishing all my stuff early. I ended up making six scarves, a double knit hat, two sock monkeys, and a couple dozen ornaments with the help of my two year old. I also made 10 lbs of fudge (which sounds impressive until one realizes that it's only two batches), a whole mess of cookies and about a dozen full-size loaves of Cinnamon Banana Bread.

My son (the two year old) made bookmarks for everyone on his x-mas list :-). (Okay he colored bookmark blanks I bought at Oriental.com, but still, it's crafty) Gotta start 'em young ya know.

By crumpet On 12/20/03

another bag done! this one is ladybug print fake fur. so cute! :D

By twistdjoy On 12/20/03

So far, I've made:

4 knitted purses and matching fluffy eyelash yarn scarves for my little nieces, and 2 purses, a hat and the Rock Star scarf for my daughter. Also made her some marble pushpins and magnets.

Matching hat and scarf for my son, plus marble magnets and a special CD mix.

knitted hats for my nephews and BILs

Knitted shawl and marble magnets for my mom

Baskets of 8 different spice blends for my sisters

Knitted dishrags and potholder, plus some marble magnets for my grandmother

Beaded pin for my stepmother

My dad was going to get my first pair of knitted socks, but I got 3/4 through the first one and realized I wouldn't finish in time! So since I'm seeing him this afternoon, looks like he'll get a basket of homemade candy and cookies instead.

By antigone On 12/20/03

I have pneumonia, so I haven't made everything I planned yet, such as the sweets + cookies I normally do :( Here's what I have made:

*knitted scarf for my dad
*knitted scarf for my sister, same color as her eyes
*marble magnets (2 of them with my own photos) and a red/gold velvet drawstring bag to hold them for my grandparents. Oh, and wrist warmers.
*I've adopted a dolphin for my sister who loves dolphins, and I bought a blue folder to put the documents in + decorated it with dolphin picture

I'm also going to sew a pillow for my mum and decorate it with a photo transfer of a photo I took of some flowers she got at the opening of her new shop. I've already framed another one of the photos for her birthday (Dec.5th) and it's hanging on the wall. Also, going to make a scarf for my aunt.

By Dgirl On 12/20/03

Hope you feel better Antigone...

So far, I have made:
~fortune cookie magnets out of Fimo with kooky fortunes sticking out the side
~brown sugar body scrub
~gardener's hand salve
~duct tape wallets
~wine glass candle holders for mom's garden
~a set of stamped origami mini light covers
~still working on origami purses...hurry hurry ;)

By antigone On 12/20/03

yeah, it's getting better... thanks! :)

By Twilight On 12/20/03

I made most everything on my list. However, I had grand visions of etching recycled glass bottles and that just didn't happen. I did make

*etched hearts on champagne glasses, wine bag for some New Mexico wine for my SO mom and new husband
*scarves for my 2 nieces
*several sets of marble magnets
*decoupage canister to hold crochet hooks for best friend

By Kit-Kat On 12/20/03

-two clay bowls in pottery class
-two decorated altoids tins
-tons of marble magnets (in the tins)
-tee shirt
-pretty keyholder

By peanut On 12/20/03

you guys are amazing!
i made marble magnets in decorated altoid tins (themed, like one two big magnets with photos of andy warhol's head and mick jaggers head, from the same spread, and little ones from other things in the picture, including william s. burroughs, and the tin is decorated wwith other parts of the picture, so they make these odd little sets) for friends, and i am working on a scarf to go with a hat that's done. oof. the little relatives got chinatown specials (japanese stationary, exotic candy, etc.)

i need to start making gifts earlier.

For my family (father, mother, brother) I just bought stuff... for my friends though, I made small stuffed animals.
They're tiny (fit in the palm of my hand), they're easy to mail and won't cost you a fortune in stamps (they fit in those brown envelopes with bubblewrap inside... easiness to mail is always a plus when most of my gifts go to friends abroad), they were loved by everybody who got one so far.
And now that I got the hang of making them, they're quick to make, and I don't even stab myself in the fingers with the needle that often anymore :P

Some examples (apologies for the crappy photos):>http://www.wingedspirit.net/stuff/meow.jpg>http://www.wingedspirit.net/stuff/dragon.jpg>http://www.wingedspirit.net/stuff/lion.jpg>http://www.wingedspirit.net/stuff/worm.jpg

Each little animal got named and got a paper tag explaining why the name and why I picked it for that particular friend. Much more personal and friendly and special than just, say, a CD or a book or anything you can get friends for Christmas.

Wish I could think of crafts to make for my family, for next year, but they're difficult to BUY stuff for, forget making something... and since I still live at home, and they have the habit of going "ohh cool, what're you making?" it would be difficult to keep it secret, and part of the fun of the gift is the surprise.

By whywhyzee On 12/20/03

By crumpet On 12/21/03
