I have been asked to make some invitations for an end-of-the year gathering for students, staff, and internship personnel for my off-campus study program. I want to do something really creative, but they have only given me this weekend. Does anyone have any ideas?

Is there a theme or anything? Is it formal, informal?

When I was a teen, I made some party invitations (from an idea in a magazine) shaped like t-shirts. I'll try to describe it...

You cut paper in a t-shirt shape, with just a slight curve cut out for the "neckline". You can decorate it with markers, watercolor paint or whatever, to make it look like a shirt for your party's theme. Write the invitation info on the front of the "shirt".

When it's folded into thirds (like a regular letter), the "sleeves" form flaps that wrap around the "body". Seal the flaps with rubber cement or other removable adhesive, so it can be opened without tearing.

After sealing, turn it over and write the recipient's address on the back - no need for an envelope.

I just did some with that iron on transfer paper onto denim squares(light denim mind you) and just pinked the edges. they turned out really cool and took no time at all.

It is for an informal gathering (we will present on our internships, etc)

Since these are off-campus internships, how about some kind of postcard theme?
