I want to start making resin belt buckles. I tried my first one a few days ago and ran into some problems. I posted a photo of it at http://www.girlieinthecity.net

No one else made a resin belt buckle? I also think I may have mixed the resin wrong because even 3 days later its sticky to the touch.

the problem is that envirotex lite is self-leveling. it's going to always self level. even if you layer it, i would imagine. i *really* don't think curved buckle findings will work. sorry. not unless you improvise a way to make them not curved. the paper is hard to get right--too thin and it spots, too thick and it acts funny. i use a lot of images from textbooks and it works great.

Do you have any of that mold release stuff? If so, try constructing some kind of border around the buckle that won't let the resin run off the sides and cover it in mold release. It'll still be thinner in the center of the buckle and build up on the sides and wind up being level, though...

I made a dam for a resin project out of wax paper held on with masking tape. The resin doesn't stick to the paper.

Thanks everyone. Im going to try my other one Friday. I know this is a long shot but is there any way I can remove the resin on the other one so I could start over?

I've never tried to remove Ultra-Glo, but I would imagine it would take a very toxic chemical to do so. You could look at ETI's website (they make both Envirotex and Ultra-Glo). And... I am not sure resin is the right thing for a curved surface - some sort of varnish might work better???
