Does anyone have any tips for working with eyelash yarn? I just started making a scarf and and it's a little more frustating than anticipated. I'm using a size 11 needle and Lion Brand Fun Fur.

I find it easier if I use a strand of eyelash and a strand of sportweight or worsted weight yarn held together. Gives it some stretch and body, but still looks really furry. I find eyelash hard to work with alone because of the lack of stretch and the difficulty in seeing just where the loops are.

Don't knit it very tightly. I never use a formal guage with fun fur.

I've found Fun Fur is easier to knit using bamboo needles, on the aluminum the yarn seemed slippery to me.

Also I usually knit with the yarn in my left hand and knit very fast (continental method? not sure which is which) but using the fun fur I had to hold the yarn in my right hand. Luckily I learned to knit both ways.

I try not to worry about the tension -- I usually hold the yarn in my right hand (looped around pinky and over index) but with yarn like that, I just hold it over the index -- so it's not so tight.

It's good to use for accent stripes. Such as:>http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall02/PATTrockstar.html

(Ding0 started this - it looks great!)

I made knitty's "RockStar" scarf with the Lion Fun Fur. It helped to go slow, and spread the stitches across the needle (I used aluminum without a problem); where the lashes bunch up is the loop, and that kept me from adding in phantom loops by knitting on an eyelash.

Also, if you drop a stitch just rip it out and start again. Mine was striped with wool, so I would rip out to the wool, put the stitches back on the needle, and start again. If it's *all* Fun Fur, good luck and just don't drop a stitch LOL

Thanks for the tips. It is all fun fur so I am going slow so I don't drop a stitch. It's going a lot better now that I've worked with it a little more. It's very soft so I will be happy with it when I'm done, but it will be a while before I'm there.

If I'm working with just the eyelash, I don't even bother to go back and correct if I've made a mistake since it's almost impossible to see anyway. If I end up with too many stitches on the needle, I just decrease until I've got the correct number...same w/increases. This type of yarn is very forgiving of mistakes so I work quickly & don't worry about it. It all comes out ok in the end.

When I made my scarf with the eyelash yarn, i just knitted it on those big old log size needles. It only took about an hour to make the entire thing and because it's so fuzzy, there's really no difference in appearance or warmth from ones I've seen knitted on much smaller needles.
