Hey guys! I've been given a lot o' crap over the past week and need some suggestions. Here's what I have:

*A massive box of knitting and crafting magazines from the 60's and earlier. Some of these are so cool I might just have to display them.
*A bunch of old dishes - two Curier and Ives coffee mugs, a bunch of metal bowls from tiny to enormous, glass bowls and ash trays in that awful green from the seventies, etc.
*Circular knitting needles...I can only do a straight knit stitch...what can I do w/ these? Easy stuff...it's hard for me to follow patterns.
*A set of GIGANTIC plasitc knitting needles. Huge. Enormous.
*A hectagon shaped wooden "loom" with nails to form the loom...I dunno.

Help! In my regular supply, I also have a zillion of those glass marbles, magazines, jars, rubber bands, record albums and covers, tons of stickers, tins, etc.

Ideas please!

I just want to say I am looking at your list and drooling ...

you can use the circular needles as you would straight needles, back and forth. they're much easier to knit with on public transport because they dont constantly whack the person sitting next to you and piss them off!

Some ideas,
....take apart those magazines and wallpaper your craft/art room or one room in your house with them.
...metal bowls...send 'em to me if you don't want them. I am bowl-obsessed. *L* Glass bowls are cool as table centerpieces if you fill them with water and rocks and some floating candles and maybe a leaf or two.
...ash trays? that depends. If you smoke, use them. If you don't, put them on e-bay. You'd be surprised how many people are into gross 70's (and earlier) ashtrays
...hectagon wooden loom...hmmm....with some work, this might make an interesting frame for some artwork or something.

I don't know what to say about the Currier & Ives mugs.

Hmmm...I am such a packrat! I've got a few ideas...*sigh* I can't wait to get out out of my studio apt. and into a house w/ my b/f where I'll have my OWN room esp. for my crafty/packratty stuff. ~B

So...do the circular needles create anything different?? I'm sorry...I'm so lost!

Use the circular needles to make hats! legwarmers! arm warmers! mittens! Honestly, after playing with my circs for about 30 minutes, messing up once or twice, I mastered it and making hats is so easy and quick, it's criminal! You gotta learn! :)

I'm interested to hear what people think to do with the really large knitting needles. I have a pair that my mom found cheap at a thrist store. They're like #37's or some such nonsense! :) I don't know what kind of yarn to use with them.

Whoa! I am so excited! I'm going right home to knit a hat w/ cat ears on top!

the huge needles are great for making spider webby sweaters. last year i bought a pair and a couple of balls of moss green mohair and made a gorgeous sweater for my sister. not terribly warm, obviously, but so cute over a tank top. i didn't have a pattern - i just made two bigger rectangles for the rfront and back, and then two longer, less wide ones for the sleeves and sewed it all together (a little boat neck-y). the best part? because you're not using a lot of wool, you're giving someone a homemade sweater for $10.

I bought more big puffy yarn last night and another set of large needles....15 or something. I love it! You can knit a scarf in nothing flat!

You can use the needles to make handles for felted bags (as in, the needles are the handles.)

I have an Idea for those old records.
Use the metal bowl, a little smaller that the record, set it in the oven, lay the record on top, and turn the oven on. you can leave the label on the record, it looks fine. Keep an eye on it, and when it melts, take it out. you can shape it untill it dries. It makes an amsome bowl, but beware, there is a hole in the bottom.
*Great for large jewelry
* Keys
* retro centerpieces
* also for gifts, just seran wrap with a bow, and fill with treats
hope this helps

wingnut - I love that idea. I've been knitting for several years and have never used a straight or circular needle larger than size 9. But I think you've tempted me to try it. Thanks! KokoRiffic
