so many posts about birth control lately!

So, my food habits have not changed at all, neither has my (non) exercise regiem. I am in no way overweight, but I have noticed that since my new pill, ortho tri cyclem lo (I used to be taken ortho cyclen, but they discontinued it or something), I have gained like 7 pounds!

I wondered what was up, and finally occured to me. Anyone else? ideas?

I'm on ortho tri cyclen lo and have also gained like 10 lbs. I've been on for about 6 months. It's really starting to piss me off. no change in diet or (non)excercising regimine either. I used to be on lo estren, but changed because PP doesn't offer the name brand of that one, only the generic,a nd that made me into a crazy person. so here i am fatter but a little more hormonally balanced.

stargirly, this sounds so much like me. But this is my first month and I already am noticing it. Its annoying. I don't want to become weight obsessed either, which used to be an issue with me, adn I'm afriad this might spark it, not necessarily make me have bad eating choices, but have me think about it all the time.

I mean, I don't want to just eat less, b/c I don't know if that'll do anything, and also I don't want to be hungry all the time!

The PP thing is similar to mine, they changed me b/c my old pill they couldn't get or something. Emotions wise, I'm fine. I am off any anti-depressents now (yea!) and I cry easily, but that's just my thing. (The SO has just learned to give me a hug and giggle, because really, it is silly when I cry over a car commercial!)

hmmm...

I've tried eating less, but it hasn't changed anything. So I just said screw it and went back to how i normally am. I'm just figuring that i can't control it and there's no point in obsessing over it. I've been through so many brands of BC pills that I think this is the better of the side effects i've experienced, so i don't really think it's worth it to change brands again. you may even out too. the weight will come on more at the beginning and it feels like you are gettin huge, then it will sort of even out and stay at the same weight. and i think if i was off the pill the same thing would probably happen. I would lose a lot of weight, then even out to a normal level. oh well, my man likes the added padding and curves. plus it always feels good to go buy the next cup size up in bras, ya know?

i hate to mention something really outrageous or something, but have you considered exercizing instead of eating less? i mean, call me crazy, but i thought that was the preferred method of weight loss.

well, yeah!
but I'm saying that I lead a generally active life (I walk everywhere, eat well, etc.) but do not do a regular exercise rountine or whatever.
Eating less is an option, or eating better, but I feel like I do ok at that anyhow.

(shrug)

Maybe the pill is not making anyone chubbier, but is making them retain water? The hormone could do that. If it's more water-retention, then excercise and diet wouldn't effect it? Mybe water's the culprit. Dunno what you could do about it. Celery seed extract?

Talk to your doctor...they went to school for a bazillion years, just to answer questions like this.

You should ask to switch to a pill with a lower hormone dose, I think 20 is the lowest. Less hormones=less mood swings, weight gain, ect. for most people.
