Hi!

I have long daydreamed about creating my own lingerie/fantasy clothes/fancy loungewear. As a result of a recent trip, I now have in my possesion some sheer fabric that I'm dying to use for such a purpose. Where can I find information (any media) on how to make my own basic lingerie patterns and/or how to design my own? I have a perfect idea in my head of what I want to make, but have no idea where to begin. Conventional patterns seem too tame for what I'm looking for, and besides that, I'm an in-between-sizes type of girl. I think it would be easier to just have patterns made for my own body.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Cole,

My e-mail server is "experiencing technical difficulties" at the moment, but as soon as it is up, I will e-mail you for the pajama instructions. I saw some fabric that would be great for those, too.

For the lingerie/loungewear, I'm going for a "surprise slutty" type thing. For example, I may use a classic robe/kimono pattern, but I want to use sheer material. I even have an idea for a see-through house dress or muumuu. Something subtle enough to make someone do a double-take. One of the fabrics I have is sheer midnight blue with silver moons and sprinkles on it. The other is sheer black with black embroidered roses on it. I'm thinking of making a nightie with that one.

As soon as I can find some type of pattern...

Hi Dawn,
The pattern books at any sewing store have great patterns for lingerie sets. I have a really old pattern in which I made a camisole top and boxer shorts. I cut up an old granny nightgown I had, it was a soft semi sheer material that Ihave never seen before. I tried to make a bra but it was pretty tough to make it fit, I decided that bras go under the category of things you should not try to make yourself.

I was reading an old book of my Grandma's and it showed how to make a really cute 20's-ish lingerie thingie. Looked comfy too. What you do is cut a piece of material in a kind of number-eight shape (e-mail me at creequechick@bolt.com and I'll send you a picture of the shape). Then, you sew it to a tank top along the bottom hem(you can get really easy patterns at a fabric store for tank tops). So, now you have a tank top with a eight-shaped thing flowing from the edge like an apron. Then, you wear it by looping the fabric through your legs, bringing it back up around your butt, and tieing the extra piece like an apron. You end up with this cute adult-romper thing, it looks like something they wore in black and white movies. If you send me a note thru Bolt, I'll send you a picture of how to tie it. Hope I helped!
