Ive heard Sassy magazine used to have a sewing/diy section and wanted to know if anyone could suggest a good issue. I want to buy some old issues off ebay but dont reaaly have a lot of room for magazines I cant use. Thanks in advance

By stargirley On 10/15/03

I have a magazine holder that says SASSY across the front in bright pink. I think i got it when i subscribed to the magazine as a free gift. sorry to go a little off topic, but i thought maybe if you want to trade for something, I can send it to you and you can store whatever you buy from e-bay in it. i think it would hold like 10-15 thinner magazines. it's made out of plastic, that is kinda like corrogated (sp?) cardboard. it's kida frosty/clear and velcro's shut. email me if you are interested.

There are some scanned crafty pages from Sassy at SCP:>http://groups.msn.com/shinycraftypeople/home.htm

I don't remember the crafty articles being a regular monthly feature. The only crafty-ish articles I can recall were:
-sew a pillowcase into a dress
-turn a turtleneck into a shirt and headband
-methods to dye your hair
-elvis' favorite recipes (which I would love if anyone has them)

I remember one about turning a pair of camo pants into a jacket by cutting out the crotch (for the neckline) and down the fly (for the front.) Theirs turned out looking pretty cool, but the one I tried to make out of my parachute pants looked about like you'd expect a jacket made out of pants to look. HAHAHA!

By kayke On 11/08/03

My fave was the one that told you how to make a little jacket out of a sweatshirt. It had little frogs as closures. Soooo cute. I think my roommate has that issue, actually! She is one of those save-y people. If I find it, I will post it here.

voguevixen, which issue was this? I thought I had all of them. i have the jeans to skirt one and the redo your demin one but pants to a jacket I dont remember, although I've heard this from one other person so maybe i'm missing an issue

By voguevixen On 11/08/03

Oh holy cows. I don't remember anything else about the issue. I never saved any of them and this was what, 15 years ago? (Wow, now I feel really old!) I do remember it was camoflage pants though, not regular jeans. (And now that you mention it, I DO remember the one with the sweatshirt with the frog closures! That was cute!) So about the same time frame. I remember I suscribed the first year, and maybe had a few other issues, so I'd say one of the early ones. (How many years did Sassy run?)

By liznerd On 11/08/03

sassy ran from 1988 to 1994 under jane pratt and a few years after that under some california people. are you sure you did not see the camo pants to jacket in seventeen?

By voguevixen On 11/09/03

Absolutely not. I have never bought or even read Seventeen. It was definately in the first year of Sassy, approximately the same time as the sweatshirt with frogs. (I'm thinking I made that one too, but for some reason didn't like the way it turned out. I started out with a too-small sweatshirt and it wouldn't close right I think.) Another one I remember was taking a skanky bridesmaid-ey dress, cutting it down and dying it into a cool cocktail dress. I never made that one because I never had a prom dress to cut down and never needed a cocktail dress, lol.

I can offer the photocopies to some one who would be nice to offer the photocopies to to others. I dont have the time to make copies for everyone but I'd like to share them with others.

I may sound obsessive but those are all the ones I have. I never parted with my sassy collection. so the camo pants to jacket is a mystery to me. I've only heard one other person mention that they remember a jeans to bolero jacket so something similar may exist and I just missed it. if anyone can solve the myster please post

By ashular On 11/09/03

i can make copies for free at school because i'm buddy-buddy with the librarian, so if you want to send them to me, maybe we could make a little copy sending tree? you know like you send them to me, i send them to two or three people, they each make copies and send them to three people, etc. sound plausible? let me know...

xoxo, ashley

ooh, what a great idea...I'd love to be included!

Do you think there would be a problem with putting them on the web? That way people could just go to a page and print them out themselves? I have space on my site if you want.

V

By liznerd On 11/11/03

if someone can do that that would be great. I dont have a scanner. just photocopies

By ashular On 11/11/03
