Hello there...
I was wondering if you had a 'no-sew' pattern for a poodle skirt. My mother said when she was a teenager, they used to just cut a big circle out of felt , with no sewing involved. She just can't remember how much felt or how big the circle should be. I would appreciate any help you may have.
Thanks,
Michelle

Ah, my teen years at JoAnn's finally come to good use:

First, you measure the length you want the skirt- your waist to just below your knees, probably. Double that. Now measure your waist, across from one hip to the other, not around. Add that to the first number. That is how wide the diameter of your circle will be. You may need to sew two pieces of felt together, or use iron-on seam tape to fuse them, because I think the largest width felt comes in is 45 inches.

Just trace a circle with the diameter you've come up with on the material, then cut a circle in the middle to accomadate your waist. You can usually find applique poodles at the fabric store too.

I hope those directions were coherant- good luck!

You'll probably have to sew the felt together to make a width long enough. I remember reading about vintage poodle skirts, and one distinctive attribute they had was their lack of seams because the felt bolts of fabric were wider at that time.

If you don't want to sew at all, and the tape in unavailable, you can hot glue the seams together. It won't last forever, but it's an easy way of working with felt.
