does anyone have the toffee recipe that was posted around Christmastime? I know the recipe involved saltines.

I would greatful if someone has a copy.

English Toffee ala Glitter:

1 stick of butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 stack of unsalted saltines
6 oz. chocolate chips
chopped nuts (walnuts or almonds are good)

-Line cookie sheet with foil and spread crackers out close together.
-Over stove, melt butter. Add sugar. Boil for 3 minutes. (mine didn't take that long, don't let it get all bubbly and puffy)
-Pour butter mixture over crackers and spread.
-Bake in 400 degree oven for 5 minutes on center rack.
-Drop 6oz.(1/2 bag) chocolate chips over it and let them melt. (I stuck them back in the oven for a minute).
-Spread the chocolate like frosting.
-Sprinkle with chopped nuts.
-Refrigerate until cold.
-Crack into pieces.
-EAT! or give away.

I can't remember who posted it but I saved it!

if you guys ever forget again, this stuff is officially called soda cracker candy, and you can google a bunch of recipes. I enjoy saying "sodey cracker" like we're in a railroad car. I found it by accident on the foodtv.com site. If you use brown sugar and no nuts, they taste exactly like a skor bar, especially if you keep them in the fridge. Every guy I know loves this stuff more than even me.

also--I use 2 sticks of butter and a whole bag of chocolate chips. Ooh, is this good.

Yay! I posted that last Christmas! I'm so happy it was such a hit. My mom makes it for EVERYONE every year, and now I do the same. I'm definately going to try the brown sugar thing, thanks.

happy melting!

I make these with graham crackers instead of saltines and keep them in the freezer (at my boyfriend's...too dangerous to keep at home).

Even though he's "not a candy guy," there's always suspiciously fewer each time I check on them!!

I just made this stuff. It is sooo damn good.

I think I will try making it with brown sugar next time.
