i recently found a great little black vintage purse amongst some old clothes of my mother's and grandma's. it's in very good condition except for the little hard closing part on the top. it's covered in black fabric but, the fabric has frayed and come of on some spots (mainly in the 2 corners) does anyone have any advice on how to fix that little problem?

There are so many ways this purse could be fastened that your question is hard to answer.

If the material fully covers the clasp and when you snap it shut the sound is muffled because of the fabric layer, you might try a tiny little slip cover. Figure the pattern out by draping and then stitch the little bugger from some rayon twill tape or some thing else fairly durable. You could use a tiny piece of upholstery silk, too. You want something that will stand up to the hard wear on it, so no lurex or stretchy knit.

I've also seen crocheted covers on some fasteners that might disguise the frayed edges underneath.

Again depending on the type of closure, consider wrapping with upholstery thread. You would have to wind and glue and keep the thread as tight as it is on the spool.
