Topic how to acid wash??!! Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By kittiekattie On 08/17/03

Lately, I have become obsessed with acid washed clothing, and I would really like to apply this method to some of my own clothing my self. My only problem is I can't quite figure out how to do it. So if any one knows the steps to follow, it would be greatly appreciated if you could help me with my D.I.Y. dilema.

oooo, is this look coming back? The other day I was daydreaming about a diy acid washed mini

If we're talking acid wash from the 80s, and my memory is correct as to what it looks like, I would experiment by putting a strong bleach solution into a spray bottle and seeing what you end up with from fine mist all the way up to concentrated spray.

That's a great idea. Thanks for the help. I'm going to start right away!

I was thinking about this last night (my exciting life!) and I thought another thing to try would be to dip one of the sponge paintbrushes (you know, black sponge, varying widths, chisel-shaped tip, wooden handle) into a bleach solution and fling it onto the fabric. It will give you bigger drops that might be further apart/less concentrated than with a spray bottle. Do it outside or on lots and lots of newspaper, though!

:0 I love that idea, it's like splatter painting. I think I'll try both methods on the same jeans to give it a little more edge! Thanx again. Your ideas are so helpfull.

i do it just by tying it up like you would if you tye dying something and splattering it with bleach

oh kittie. bringing back the evil acid wash? that trend should have died 20 years ago.

i have to agree. as an ausralian, ive been subjected to more than anyones share of socially awkward mullet men wearing acid wash.ughhh
;). but, if anyone can manage to make it look good, send the technology down here!

don't be sucked in by the acid wash...really...you'll regret it 10 years from now.

Come on, now, folks - where's the love? We can swap legwarmer patterns but we mock acid-washing?

In the meantime, we should be saving this stuff for our children, who will moan and cry at the fact that we threw out things we thought were "tacky" after they went out of style, never dreaming that they would rise again to heights of fashionable glory.

Acid wash with reckless abandon. Let us know how it turns out.

yeah I'd love to see pics. And hey, I'm anti leg warmers too. I do not discrimate when it comes to letting go of 80s fashion.

:) but do what makes you smile.
