Topic Totally shameless plug for swap... Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By kittyblack On 08/06/03

Hi all,

Some of you might know that I have a website where I sell rubber stamps and collage materials, etc. Sales have been pretty good this summer but I'm really bummed because the response to my art swaps have been pretty dismal.

I know people have been on vacation, etc. but I'm scared that my upcoming fall swaps are going to be totally lame, w/ not enough participants, etc.

Here's my link... please check it out if you're into this kind of stuff! (also, if you do want to participate, please follow the instructions on the site about emailing me - I'm really bad about checking back on threads). The next deadlines aren't until Sept. 30, so I'm not asking for any overnight art creation miracles! Just wanted to get the word out.

Just wanted to let you kow the picture for the Vintage Seed Packets on your site is missing.

DeborahM - thanks for the heads up - seed packets are a new addition and for some reason new pages don't always make it through file transfer with all the graphics (even though the graphic file is there). Probably a user error... not to hijack my own thread but if anyone knows how/why this happens, lemme know!

(val - thanks! I'm shameless but hate to have to bump my own post)

Hey, that matchbook booklet swap sounds pretty good to me ... but I'm rather clueless about what a matchbook booklet looks like, or COULD look like, if you know what I mean. Do you (does anyone?) have any links I could follow to see examples?

Luci (not yet committed, but thinking about it....)

By kittyblack On 08/23/03

Hey Luci,
I can't find a link for anything good and descriptive but matchbook booklets are basically just little handmade books inside of matchbook covers. There is a scrapbooking company that sells blank, empty matchbook covers but its pretty easy to use an actual matchbook or just make your own from cardstock. You stuff it with a few sheets of paper (or other flat stuff) where the matches would ordinarily sit, staple and then embellish the pages and the cover.

I'll keep looking for a link and post if I find anything (or else post one of mine).
Cheers!
Steph

here are a couple of examples - keep in mind these are of the "kute krafts" variety which I am not a fan of, but at least you get the gist:>http://www.jazgordon.com/crafts/archives/000799.html>http://www.jazgordon.com/crafts/archives/000800.html

Here is a template for making a matchbook:>http://shala.addr.com/print/printables/new1/

Can we participate in swaps if we are overseas? And if so, how do we deal with the extra stamps for postage issue?

By kittyblack On 08/26/03

yay for the participation! I knew I could count on the Glitterati!

Titania - email me and let me know where you are and I'll see if we can figure out the postage question so you can participate. (my email is stephanie@kittyblack.com)

Steph,

Never done a swap before...sounds like fun! I'm wonderfully tempted as well.

When you are talking about "art dolls" do you mean the same ones that they use in Somerset Studio magazine? (Wimpole Street Creations makes them, right?)

Just wondering.

Take care,
Jodi

Jodi -
I answered your email but for anyone else's FYI, art dolls can be anything. I've see art dolls that look like rag dolls (like the Wimpole Street doll blanks), and some that emphasize the ART part and really stretch the DOLL part. So its whatever you wanna do. You can make a doll from scratch or embellish one that you already have. Altered Barbie's (or any other altered doll-like toy, for that matter) fall in the art dolls category too.

Art doll swaps are so much fun because artists are taking a really basic idea - 2 "arms", 2 "legs", a "head" and a "torso" (I use the terms loosely because I've seen arms and legs made out of forks and spoons) - and interpreting it in really different and imaginative ways.

Swaps are a blast (as I know so many people here can attest based on that various swaps that happen here) - its fun creating something based on a theme or challenge and its even more exciting to get a suprise return in the mail.
