I know a few ambitious types have been posting already about ideas for a crafty christmas... I just finished this project a few minutes ago and wanted to share!

It's a quillow, which is supposed to be a cross between a quilt and a pillow, but this is even easier since it's just a piece of fleece (no quilting needed).
I wanted to do a nice thank-you gift for a good friend, and came across this... Jo-Ann had nice anti-pill fleece on sale for $4.99 a yard, so it was only $10 worth of fabric! That was so unexpectedly cheap that I got a bottle of Igloo Proof (wash-in fleece water repellent), also on sale for $3.75. Not bad at all. That way, I figure she could use it as a picnic blanket on dewy grass with a little bit more ease.
Two modifications: instead of doing a straight or regular zig-zag stitch around the pillow part, I did an overcast zig-zag, which I liked better, but isn't necessary. It just keeps the edges in nicely. I also rounded the corners of the blanket itself (not the pillow part) and did a blanket stitch of embroidery floss around the perimeter of the blanket (again, not the pillow part).
My only disappointment is that it really isn't much of a big, fluffy pillow (a little flat)... but oh, well. Just wanted to pass along a quick, easy idea! Fleece won't likely be on sale for much longer, since it's out of season now (but will be in season again soon). Might be a good idea to stock up now even if you won't be making them until later.
