Topic keeping bugs out of resin Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

Hey all. I am planning to make a mosaic on top of a coffee table and use Envirotex Lite to coat it. (It's perfect for this because the middle of the tabletop is indented.)

I have a tiny apartment with no backyard, just a long driveway and a porch. I will probably do the Envirotex part on the porch. I am worried about bugs and other nasties getting into the resin while I let it dry. Or that my neighbors will do something stupid and mess it up.

Is there anything I can put across the top of the table to protect it a bit while it dries? Cheesecloth? Netting? I know I'd have to prop either of those up so they don't get stuck to the resin either. Will putting something over the table and not allowing good air flow affect the curing time?

And, finally, about how long will it take to cure if it's about 1/8" deep, a foot across, and two feet long?

Thanks in advance for any replies (and for reading down this far!!)

i just did a coffee table that was bevelled inside, making a perfect envirotexable surface. make sure you have enough of the stuff to mix, and a friend to help you mixing. both of you should wear bandanas or something to keep your hair out.

the box suggests putting cardboard over the whole thing. definitely do it! and it only smells for prolly the first day, so you can move it inside afterwards. the temp will determine the cure time, so check the box for details. good luck with it! oh, and also, don't move the table once you pour. no matter how steady you are, it will ripple. (learned this the hard way).
