I bought this awesome chinese lantern and I am trying to get it to hang up on my cieling and it won't! I have trie those 3M cord hangers and push pins and tape. What else should I try?

you might drill a hole and screw in a hook with an anchor.

I second that idea. Push pins don't work well in ceilings unless it's a flat piece of paper. I've tried it.
So go to the hardware store, buy a hook that has the screw looking top, and you should be good to go. =]

I never actually put lights in my laterns...I hang them as paper decorations, so they're not heavy, but what I do is I attach a loop of thread to the latern and staple the thread a bunch of times to the ceiling.
