Topic screen printing kit in canada? Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By Lia On 07/15/03

I have become really interested in screen printing, and when I finally had time to go to a screen printing store, the estimated cost of all the supplies he gave me was about $200 canadian. Which is too much for me to start out with.

So I am wondering if anyone know any good stores in Vancouver that sell kits, or even any websites whos prices are in canadian dollars that sell kits. I've had bad experiences with exhange rates and customs fees, so I'd rather purchase something from a canadian website!! thanks!

hey, i got a speedball screen printing kit for about $80 at island blue in victoria, and am really happy with it. they have a kit specifically for printing on fabric now too. i can't recommend any stores in vancouver, but i'm sure if you phoned around to art supply shops somebody would have kits. (or if you happen to be over here you can hit island blue).

Have you looked in http://www.opusframing.com/
They're in Vancouver and when I lived there spent many an hour checking out the stuff.

You can order a kit online from www.omerdeserres.com for $73.95 except the shipping would be really steep, like 18$ for BC.

I'm tempted to order one though, because since I live in Qc, the shipping is only $5. Unfortunatly I've been holding out because I'm angry that the actual stores don't stock the kit while the website does, and the stores won't order it for me. I don't really want to pay even $5 for shipping when I can walk down the street and into the store.

OH OH! yaaaaaa =D screen printing in vancouver! WOO!
ive been looking for this too. whered you guyes go?
did you find something?
i'm looking into it too. i dont need a kit, but even just buying the loose supplies. emulsion. lamp. 2 things of inks maybe? squeege? the fabric, an i'll make my own screens. i'll also make my own clamp thingy too.
opus is *really* expensive. >.< !!

ps: i recall emailing opus asking about screen printing supplies an they said they didnt carry any at the moment. but that was a while back, maybe they do now?

ok, a friend in vancouver just recommended trying the loomis art store on main. she says they are a combo graphics supply and art supply store, so they have pro gear but also beginner kits. you could try calling them if you haven't tried there yet. 604.681.7351/800.663.1215

also, opus in vancouver is listed as a supplier on the speedball site. i find them cheaper than other art supply stores for brushes, canvas, and frames, but that is probably because they have their own opus brand for those items. they might be pricey for printing supplies.

thanks for all the help guys!
i went to loomis today an bought the last kit for $73.

I phoned opus though, and they have a kit for $73 and a kit for $100 (i actually forget the exact price, but they are pretty close, maybe a few dollars higher for each). the 100 (for fabric, and paper prints) one includes a video, and a few other things.

i would probably recommend the one from loomis, but it is just for fabric printing! since i took the last one, call to make sure they have more!
