I am STILL folding gum wrappers for what will one day be a purse, if it kills me. In the meantime I have also made about five duct tape products (wallets, purses etc.) because of the instant gratification involved with them. Next I will attempt to make little clutch purses out of vintage bras...and, of course, continue to fold gum wrappers >:)

Dgirl--Wow! These are my kind of projects! Do you have any directions for these??

Thank you.

lmao, I agree... your projects sound great Dgirl! any photos? :D

I am currently making a big set of matching components for my upcoming trip to the Dominican Republic: boy leg bikini shorts, regular bikini bottoms, triangle bikini top, tankini top, halter top, and skirt. The halter top is giving me fits because I am making it without a pattern and keep discovering design flaws. I plan to wear it saturday for my birthday, so it needs to get done. I did make a really cool matching lariat necklace.

Also, a hot pink with white polka dots Marilyn Monroe style halter dress. That is still a length of fabric and an untouched pattern, ugh.

I've been avoiding making too much jewelry, because I don't want to run out of projects to take with my on my aforementioned trip, and I can't buy any beads until after I get back because then I'm going to NYC and splurging.

I've been sewing all my too-big t-shirts into boat-neck, cap-sleeved tops. I've also been working on cutting down hyphen-usage.

Soon I'm gonna start working on matching dresses for my Shangri-Las cover band.

By daria On 08/30/03

ah, you're hilarious! :) i was also wondering how one goes about reconstructing shirts into boat-neck, cap-sleeved tops... they sound pretty awesome... also, do you have any pics of your finished products?

I have half a wrap-around shirt, an eyelet lace covered skirt with all but the waistband done, two half covered binders, a book to be made into a bag with half the pages cut out, and a pinned-together tie dress all lying around my room. And since school starts in three days, they'll probably stay that way.

Hey Comfits,
I got started on the gumwrapper purse thing after reading this thread:>http://discuss.gromco.com/mwforum/topic_show.pl?id=28724#321746
The instructions for duct tape wallet can be found here and mine just sort of became more and more elaborate, as I'm sure yours will, too!>http://www.rpi.edu/~kirkd/dtwallet_making.html
I am still working out the details of the bra purse...I'll keep y'all posted.

I finally finished building a cage for my rats so my next project is a livingroom table. But my mind is on a pleated+jean skirt... so maybe I'll do that first.

/niina - I liked this thread, lots of great ideas and inspiration.

Today's tasks are to do the Like Water for Chocolate Altered book and get that ready to be shipped off tomorrow and also I am making some handmade postcards using fabric and wood for a swap. Thirdly, I am creating packs of beads and other stuff to be auctioned off on eBay.

I just made a bracelet today, only took me about 5 minutes. I took a waistband off a pair of jeans a while ago cuz I wanted them to be low-rise. I wanted to make a denim cuff bracelet, so I chopped off part of the waistband, starting at the end so I could use the button hole, and I hand sewed on a coke tab to used as the button. It looks really cool, esp. cuz the denim is kinda splotchy. I love it! Now I'm thinkin of using coke tabs as buttons on those jeans, cuz they don't have a zipper or anything at the moment... I don't know if the tabs would bend or fall off or what, but I won't know 'till I try it :)

of the moment: a book clutch

yesterday: shrinky dink charms so I could make custom wine glass markers; cigar box purse

on deck: a waist apron and thinking up something to put in altered AOL tins

Ooh, goodness. Lots of 1/2 done things right now...
Working on a gummy bear charm bracelet, a pumpkin charm bracelet (the pumpkin candy kind), mento charm bracelet (all of this for an assignment in my jewelry class at school).
I'm in the middle of making a chunky purple/blue scarf (had to stop in the middle of it to roll the yarn in a ball) and I started making a single crochet/double crochet alternating stitch baby blue scarf to match my new baby blue jacket I just got for my birthday...
I'm also in the middle of making thank you cards for people, thankfully I already embossed the envelopes.
There's probably more, but I'm so disorganized I can't remember. :)

ummmm,

*cross-stitch/quilt for my nephew (must be finished for first birthday in january)

*need to finish the barkcloth curtain dress, which requires much more work right now than I'm feeling up for

*maybe make a simple knitted dress to wear to friends' wedding

*simple cross-stitch project for said friends' wedding

and, when those are completed there is a huge pile of upholstery fabrics scavenged from an abandoned mill that have some destiny including tote bags, car seat covers and many other wacky things

1. I have been working on a Celtic-pattern cross stich pillow for my mom for about three years now. I really, seriously, for reals will finish it before her birthday at the end of October. No, really. :P
2. I had a really blousy, long-sleeved lambswool sweater from Lands End my mom gave me years ago. It is a light tan color with a white band with a snowflake and trees pattern. I hated how it looked on me and t-shirt reconstruction gave me the idea to cut off the sleeves, take in the sides, trim the hem and cut out the neck to make a kind of sleeveless sweater top. Hopefully it will look as good as I think it will.
3. The sleeves of the aforementioned sweater will likely be felted and turned into stuffed kittens? Which will then be gifts for either a woman at my office who is pregnant with twins or for my cousin's baby.
4. Just completed are a skirt inspired by getcrafty's article but actually based off pants, and a beaded necklace with pink heart pendants, white and lavender crystals and hot pink long beads.
5. I've also set aside some t-shirts for reconstruction (or underwear) and am thinking of other clothes I like but don't wear that I can reconstruct!

I just finished a Harry Potter quidditch jersey, which I'm quite proud of. Stenciled names and such on the back.

Next, I'm thinking of sewing a purse and stenciling some Moulin Rouge-ish type art on the side.
