Topic knitted kufi hat patterns? Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

My mom has a good friend about to undergo chemo... I'm looking for some nice lightweight knitted cap patterns.

I *swear* I saw a free pattern of a kufi hat a few months ago - the one in the picture was orange - but I cannot find it now! Aargh!

I've done some google searches and have been pretty disappointed - only about 2 have showed up. Lots and lots of broken or outdated links. Anyone have a link or two to share?

Remember, please, that this is a fairly conservative (but stylish) 60-year-old woman from upstate New York! As much as I may personally appreciate the "fuck cancer" hats, or some of the wilder designs, it's not quite audience-appropriate for her. The warm chinchilla hats aren't what I'm looking for, either. Think: cotton, lightweight, summer cap.

Thanks in advance!

i don't know what a kufi hat is(sorry!), but there is a rad website with heaps of hat patterns, specifically for people undergoing chemo here: http://www.headhuggers.org/patterns/patterns.htm
hopefully that might help you.. there are lots of stylish hats, and i hope your mum and her friend get through this as best as they can.

Thanks! There were some great ideas there. A kufi hat looks similar to these:

My mom isn't into crocheting, though, so I'd like ideally to find something like those in a knitting pattern. Any other suggestions?

The site actually has some knitting patterns...
It was just listed on the main index, not the one that was linked to. =]
Here ya go. The list is in the left hand side.>http://www.headhuggers.org/default.htm

Hey...I make chemo caps for a knitting group at work (it's a hospital). The best yarn I've used lately is Mission Falls 1824 cotton. They started out with a wool yarn, and eventually they duplicated it in cotton so it would be usable for all-season projects. It has a super nice texture and the patients that got my hats liked them so far.

This page shows most of the colors but there are a few more.
