You could make a shower curtain like in my ugly bathroom thread, and put cds in instead of pictures!

Hi everyone!

Here's a link on how to make CD Disco Balls.

It's from a craft column I write. All you need are way-sharp scissors (brand new ones work best), a glue gun, silver glitter, strapping tape and fishing line (and a styrofoam ball for the center). It was really easy and took me less than an hour. The picture is my first one, I did a bigger one later and it came out much nicer...

Maybe you could do a bunch of small disco balls (softball sized) and hang them all over your ceiling for a funky retro sci fi look...

Good luck!

I use my scratched up cds as candleholder thingies under my fat pillar candles. They look nifty, and work great. No wax on the altar cloth! yay!

Doing anything damaging to old records, especially 45's is sacrilege. I keep my 45's pinned to my walls, and play them regularily, especially the Beatles ones, which are damn hard to find, expensive, and really don't deserve to be treated like scrap paper. AOL and badly burned CD's should be used for crafts, because there's not much else you can do with them, but you should never, ever, destroy good music. Records like that are a part of our musical heritage, and really should be loved and preserved. Why not just invest in a second-hand record player? I can't think of a better way to spend a few dollars, and it can bring a lot of music into your life -- cheap.

If you're not planning on doing anythign that needs them to be reflective [although they will still have some shine, as i remember], before you do whatever you're going to do with them, put each one, shiny side up, in a microwave for about 5 seconds, the sparking effect looks cool, and the back of the disc looks really pretty postmicrowave. :) It was funny though, my brother got bored once with an AOL cd and a knife and accomplished a similar effect, it just took him a few days....

if you drill a few tiny holes around the edges of the cd, you can sew them onto a backpack or purse or anything else you want using thin fishing line.

I stumbled onto this website today and I really really like the looks of these pins. I'm sure you could tweak them into other kinds of jewelry too.

Just to toot my own horn...

I took about 40 of those AOL startup CDs you can get at Target, glued 'em to my butt-ugly garage sale coffee table and covered it with plastic table top resin, so it looks like THIS:
>http://www.digsmagazine.com/lounge/lounge_cddecor3.htm (it's a whole article on cheap stuff to do with CDs.)

The table's also under my ceiling light, so the whole table's rainbowy all the time. Ooooh....Aaaahhhh!

I have cd's duct taped all over the front of my furnature:) when the sun shines, I get all kinds of rainbows. I also use them behind the handles of my furntature..you just unscrew your knobs and put the cd over the hole and put the knob back in:)
