Topic *%$^& bias tape is hard to sew. Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By kittythedog On 05/31/01

This is my first time using bias tape. I was using the double- fold type for an apron and it was really hard for me to sew along the edge of that tiny stuff. I pinned it and everything, but occasionally my needle would go like 1/8" to the left and off of the tape. Any suggestions? Maybe I just can't sew straight. This is only my second project, so I didn't really expect it to be perfect....
I went to Hancock fabrics today and picked up a pattern for a canvas tote bag. Everything I bought was on sale and I *still* spent $27. Grrr.

Not much help here, but when I sew bias on, I have to go super super slow - usually I don't even use the pedal on the machine, I just turn the wheel on the end by hand. But it still ends up being faster than sewing it by hand, which is the other option.

It does get easier to sew the more you do it. When I have to use it, I use lots and lots of pins, and sew it very slowly.

What is bias tape for? I'm a new sewer and these extra items are confusing me. Also what is seam binding?
