well.....I dunno about colours...but anything bright would do.....also....I saw on this decorating show....they took one of those straw mats that people use to put their towels on at the beach....and used it as blinds....they even used the strings already attached to tie it up durin the day.....I thought that was pretty cool..

lots of potted plants. you can stack them on tables and on the floor. you can also use straw hats as a lampshades, which looks as cute as a button. get some surfing stuff and lay it against the wall. you can also cut circles from paper, string them into a necklace, and voila, you'e got leis to place all around. also look in thrift stores and garage sales for stuff from hawaii 5-0 and hawaiian eye. you could also take barbie dolls and dress them up in hawaii inspired swimsuits.

target has these neat foam mats for kids' rooms, they're like legos that you put together. And they are foam! and would be sooo cool in a beach themed place. Target is great for inspiration!

I think that you should get a bunch of really cheep lays (the flower things that go around your neck) and you can string them around windows, pictures frames, lamp shades, whatever!

If you go to Linens and Things they have to cutest Hawian themed comforters and Pillows. I Just bought a set for my dorm room called Gone Surfin. It's grey blue with little surfers and palm trees on it. They're not overexpensive, or you could just get some of the accessories to go with a bedspread you already have.

Go to surf shops and ask for any free posters, get as many as you can of extreme waves, and plaster a wall with them. SoBe bottles make nice flower vases, and hanging plants make your room look really exotic. I clip beachy ads from magazines, and put those up too. Oriental Trading Co. has really cheap leis and grass skirts. Paint your room in a tropical colour, like blue or tangerine. Even better, try a mural of a beach scene or just waves as a border. Hope this helps...

Pick up some surf magazines (Transworld Surf and Surfer are really good, plus they come with posters, but Surfing and Wahine will have better pics of girl surfers) and stick them into some bad ass frames that you can paint and decorate with leis (that is the correct spelling, boneheads) and other large, themed flowers. If you aren't into surfing as much as Hawaiian stuff (don't the two go hand in hand?) how about a natural looking beaded curtain (with bamboo and shells or nuts) which you could either buy or make by hand and a spruced up lampshade with collaged pictures of beaches and sunsets? If you don't want to get rid of your door (for, ahem, privacy reasons), Urban Outfitters has a bad ass mural of palm trees on a perfect beach that you could either cover a large wall with or cut into sections and put on your door and a few choice walls. I think the best thing, though, would be to have lots of wall decorations and accessories on your necessary things (like doors and lamps) so that your larger pieces (ie bed, bureau, floor) can be covered in solid, bright colors of your choosing (but can I suggest turquoise and orange, the color of the water and sunsets in Hawaii?) And if you really want to be kick ass, learn how to surf and use your surfboard as a prop when not in use. Mine likes to tease me from the wall and make me want to wake up and surf day in and day out. Good luck, chickabiddy!

i did a hawaiian themed room a few years back, and i used hula skirts for my curtains. they're not at all hard to hang and i got some cheap lays and strung them across the top where the hula skirts met the curtain rods. it was fun. i also hot glued lays to a plain white lampshade, that looked pretty awesome too.
