I used to paint on jars and tins and then just used them for holding pens and pencils. If this is a pretty jar with a design, turn it into a small vase with either real or silk flowers.

Most of my shells until recently were in large mason jars or fish bowls or other clear glass. I also store rocks and beach glass and potpourri in them.

If you have a high window, fill it full of water with a couple of drops of food coloring in it. The light coming through it will be pretty. The mess if it falls sucks, bigtime.

BIG jars: terrariums, coin banks, or fill with weird small toys like the old bubblegum machines, y'know little green soldiers, matchboxes, costume jewelry, rubber insects, glow in the dark balls, whatever will amuse you to look for occasionally.

Craftyteen,

I have just started making some things involving glass jars. Jelly jars are great for spices (put a piece of fabric under the lid for a dressed up look) and they are also great to store your homeade lotions, bubble bath, and hair gels. You could use glass jars for storage (beads, thread, safety pins). Beth had a great idea about the shells. I had a tall thin jar that I filled with shells and water - it is now a beautiful water garden.

Fill em with a little sand, stick in a candle and tie em up to a tree or a veranda with some wire. They make cute little outside lanterns.
