By violet On 10/22/02

Otherwise known as 'heaven help her, Violet cannot shit.'

Heaven is unavliable for comment so I thought I'd ask the next best source.

.....Yeah, I can't shit. It sucks. Not for 3 days. :O i have tried the usual salty-water chug, but im just salty and bloated now.
I havn't been eating much lately, I drink 6 diet coke a day, I am a vegitarian, and my mum and sister both have Acute Colotis.
What really bothers me about this is it feels just like when i had worms when i was a little girl & started eating american food. (I warned you this was gross) I didn't think adults got worms, though, and I seriously do not want that to be an option. Yuck. But now that I'm thinking about the subject, how *does* one get worms?

Uhh, thanks, and sorry for such a disgusting topic!

By farce On 10/22/02

hmm i dont know how one gets worms... and im really not much help i guess. But maybe you should eat some red grapefruits? that always helps me.... like i said im not much help

By Seide On 10/22/02

Go to the health food store and get some senna tea (Get the prepared tea, not just loose senna, as it is strong and if you don't do it right you will be shitting out stuff you ate in fourth grade). I don't recommend this as a permanent solution, but at least it is natural and it WILL work.

Worms: Adults can get them. They can be gotten through minimal contact. Occasionally the eggs go airborne and you can inhale them. Read a funnny/informative article at http://www.hipmama.com/features/pinworm.html

you can read the symptoms there and evaluate yourself accordingly.

By monkey_thoughts On 10/22/02

Although I totally think you need to go to the Dr. Have you tried milk of magnesia or a colonic?

By farce On 10/22/02

that article really really disturbed me....that is all i have to say
:)

By violet On 10/22/02

senna tea... will get. Whats a colonic?

that artcile was scary. ahhh. I'm going to yell at my mom for examing my ass while i slept, some 13 years ago. Damnit.

By monkey_thoughts On 10/22/02

colonic = enema

By Elf_Chick On 10/22/02

yeah, it might not be a bad idea to get to the dr. and get a good flushing out. i can't imagine that's fun, but it should get you goin' again.

also, just in general, it sounds like you're needing some more food and less pop! maybe some good roughage would get things cleared out too. big salad?

poor eyelet. feel better, dear.

By meadow On 10/22/02

ek i am sorry babydoll. and its not that gross.
when i was younger i always had to eat a red apple and drink a lot of water. and usually did the trick.
i wouldnt go down the laxative root, before trying other options, maybe go to the arse doctor, esp if it worms.
also dairy can be bad for the whole system. tana (8 yr old cousin) has intestinal problems, and even though its still not fixed (even after hospital stay last yeat) when she doesnt comsume dairy, its lessened.
*kisses to yr arse* ;)

By marissa On 10/22/02

Have you tried very strong coffee? To drink, that is. Also, vary your diet a little like others have suggested. As a fellow vegetarian, I can assure you that a salad and some fruit every day should keep things running smoothly.

I babysat for some kids who had worms. Their mother knew and still wanted me to give them a bath! I was so paranoid for months after that I would find wormy poop.

By Punky Brewster On 10/22/02

I knew a woman who got worms. Turns out that her kitty had worms, and when she changed the litter box she was exposed to them, and well you get the idea.

I'd say go to the doctor if something doesn't happen soon.

I am having some sort of kidney problem, and they are going to inject me with dye, see where it goes (and doesn't go) in my system and take lots of pictures of it while it's happening. I am glad I told the doctor. Maybe they can help you too. :)

By pixielily On 10/22/02

i second the "very strong coffee" suggestion. works a charm for me! an enema is an instant fix, too. now....about the worms...

punky, how did the woman w/ the cats know she had worms?

i'm afraid to go look at the worm link.
: )

By Punky Brewster On 10/22/02

I'm not really sure how the worms got from the kitty to the woman via the litterbox. Perhaps she didn't wash her hands thorughly or something after touching the litter box and it's..er...contents?

Anyway, I'm pretty sure they were able to verify the worms in the woman by checking out a stool sample. Fun, huh? So the both of them got treated for worms at the same time.

I don't think you can get worms from just sleeping with your pet, thank goodness! Just make sure to practice good hygiene when taking care of animals and people too for that matter! :)

By SmudgyCat On 10/22/02

there's always the old standby...dried plums, or prunes.

the article is disturbing.

and if you can get them from a cat, i am very disturbed, because my cat sleeps on the bed...

<shudder>

By violet On 10/22/02

today I ate:
red apple
lots of darjeeling tea
raw carrots
umm...crackers and hummus
lots of wooder
uh...lots of d.coke
black bean soup

All your usual shit fare. Still nothing but a bad backache and an itchy ass! :(

Punky, i hope you get better! That sucks! maybe Gus has worms and i got them from him.... we did share pinkeye a few months ago.
Shannon, its called soda! :P my mom gets this tube-thing up her ass and it sucks it out. i really would rather not resort to that, but I dunno.
Meadow- aww, your poor cousin :( She's adorable and too little to be dealing with all that. I hope things start looking up for her! Give her my well wishes & big kiss.

By PrincessMoody On 10/23/02

unless your tea and diet coke are decaf you are dehydrating yourself even further by drinking them. the excess caffiene is very dehydrating, I am not sure coffe would be the answer for you either for the same reason and same goes for salt water. Maybe try drinking 64 oz(the daily recommend amount) of plain water.

By jezze On 10/23/02

Worms are really easy to pick up, especially, but not only, if you have pets. Most people I know with animals de-worm them about twice a year, and my cats used to get worms about that often too. And if you stroke your pets, and don't wash your hands, or if they sleep on your furniture....because the eggs are on their fur, and they pick it up from walking around outside and chatting to other animals.

But it's not the end of the world: you have tons of parasites living in your intestine all the time, they just sometimes get a bit out of hand. Worm pills are cheap and available at pharmacies without prescription. My dr suggests de-worming yourself once a year.
(I shared a house with a very stern Belgian physiotherapist once, who gave us a lecture about worms: 'If you take a piece of your poo-poo and put it in a plastic bag and hang it up outside for a few days, you will see all the worms coming out. Everyone should do this. It is very interesting.'
Yeh, she was a bit wierd :))

By SmudgyCat On 10/23/02

omg.

By Hipkitty On 10/23/02

jezze... That thing about hanging the poo outside... Well, lets just say, im scared. Very scared.

By siwrl On 10/23/02

I just want to echo the idea that you could just be really dehydrated from drinking all the diet coke...try drinking a lot of water instead.

By katico On 10/23/02

Oh my god......

That's the scariest grossest thing I've ever heard (the poo in a bag)....and yet, strangely I'm curious...

geez girls, you've got me all paranoid. I think I'll take whoever's advice it was and do a yearly de-worm regardless of the fact I don't have them...I hope....yikes, where has my kittycat been hanging out?

*Beth*

By lustersoap On 10/23/02

Good luck Violet - I know your pain. I recommend eating a high fiber intake, and drinking alot of water. Diet Coke is so good but hurts in the end because pop is dehydrating. I normally just wait for nature to run it's course, and drink some corn syrup/warm water mixture. There has been some good suggestions here though, you could also consider going to the doctor maybe if your health insurance permits.

What is gross (not worms) but the fact that I've been plagued with dysfunctional bowels since I was a child, I've spent many days in the hospital having to get enemas and then wait til I pooped. I would literally let myself go two weeks without pooping when I was a child. Now, thank god I am much better.

By jtsang On 10/23/02

oh dear, poo in a bag, i cannot stop laughing.
Poor violet, I'm sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I would cut all soda out of your diet for a while, drink LOTS and LOTS of water, and call your doctor. Have you been eating lots of cheese or ice cream? I'm not sure if you're a vegan or just a vegetarian, but cheese and ice cream will give you constipation. My doctor told me this, it isn't something I just made up. He suggests drinking lots of water for constipation before trying those milk of magnesia stuffs, but then again he also had to give me an Upper GI and a colonoscopy to determine that I didn't have enough water in my diet...so I don't know that he can really be trusted either...colonoscopy = no fun. However there is this lemony fizzy gross stuff that you can drink to 'help things along' I hope you feel better! Poor dear!
jt
edited to add upper gi = no fun either, i didn't mean to imply that was any better than the colonoscopy...gross barium drink ewww

By shrinkingviolet On 10/23/02

Milk of Magnesia would probably save you in this situation. It would get things running and save you a doctors visit. However my experience with Milk of Mag says that you had better set aside a good block of hours, and have a 100% available bathroom and no one else around. It makes your tummy a bit crampy and you may have to run to the bathroom a few times.
I had to use it after I was taking pain pills for headaches and no one warned me of side effects. Let's just say it was definately worth it in the long run.

By trishie On 10/23/02

This isn't as fun as poo in a bag, but there's a yoga posture called the 'Wind Removing Pose' that, in addition to removing wind, loosens the bowels. Here's a link (it's #14):

Basically, you lie flat on your back with your chin tucked (try to flatten your neck) and try to pull your knee to your right shoulder - it should put pressure outside the rib cage. It helps, really. It sucks, though, if you take a yoga class and you're next to someone who needs lots of wind removed. Stinky.
