Wow! Did you see the price on that first link!
I am getting ready to make one out of bottle caps.

By Shopafrolic On 10/13/02

aw. i *heart* charm bracelets, probably can't make one to save my ass though!
hmm, i wonder how to make one....

By kategirl On 10/13/02

I just finished one (I made the chain myself, too) using some little beads and baubbles left over that I've never used for anything. I'll have a pic of it on SCP as soon as I can get my scanner working!

By pixielily On 10/14/02

how are you gonna do the bottle cap bracelet? i'd love to make one, but can't figure out how!

By Punky Brewster On 10/15/02

pixie-
I am going to cut out small pictures and glue them into the bottle caps, then probably outline that with glitter glue (on the inside of the cap, surrounding the picture). I'm going to make a hole in the bottle cap near the top (I don't have a drill bit that small, so I'll probably just use a nail or something). Them I'll attach it to a link bracelet using jump rings. If I have any room in between I'm going to get those straight pins (are they called head pins?), put funky beads on them, then attach them to the bracelet with needle nose pliers.

Hope that helps!

A woman I used to work with gave me a bunch of her old jewelry from the 80s. Much of it was truly junk, but a lot of the earrings make great pendants. Don't toss them!

I love charm bracelets. I can't believe the prices on those puppies in the first link...and they're all sold!!!! I have got to learn something about marketing.

By pixielily On 10/14/02

i KNOW what you're saying about the prices...truly phenomenal! i just sat there in amazement as i clicked through the pages. yes, they're great bracelets, but WOW!

anyway, i did end up making one today, using an assortment of green glass beads, some silver beads, & various other little goodies. i made 18 charms & attached them to a silver chain bracelet my daughter had abandoned. it's very lush, all green & glowy & jingly & ready to wear!

i'm gonna hunt around for instructions on how to make the charms/baubles...if i can't find any, i'll try to explain it myself (not that it's hard, i'm just kinda brainfried right now!)

again, wish i could post a pic...

ok, here's a link for general jewelry-making. the examples are for drop-type earrings, but this is pretty much how i make my beaded charms, attach them to a spring-ring or jump ring, then to the bracelet.

hope this helps!

By gadgetgirl On 10/16/02

I made one out of a bunch of left over beads. it came up pretty cool too. >http://www.gadgetgirl.tk
that's my site.
if you look under the 'crafts and other creative stuff' section, you'll see the 'easy bead bracelet'.

By Hipkitty On 10/16/02

I really liked that green one!

By kittinish On 10/16/02

i REALLY want one of these http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=10344771
Any idea where I could get similar charms?

By titancia On 10/19/02

kittinish, I think I may have a necklace with that turtle charm on it! Are you interested?

By pixielily On 10/16/02

punky,
yes, that does help! thanks! are you gonna cover the pics w/ something to protect them, like sealer of some kind? i'm gonna have to do this as soon as i accumulate enough caps! (jones soda caps would be cute w/out a pic, since they have the little phrases inside!)

gadget,
i LOVE your bracelet; i just used head pins on mine, but your curliques are adorable! my next bracelet will definitely have curliques!

By DeborahM On 10/16/02

Gadget, your bracelet is just my style, chunky and unique, and what a great idea with the curling the wire!(your bags are cute too!)
The charms-at second hand stores on zipper pulls.I had a great find of rainbows and stuf there. Also walmart,in the cheep jewelry($4.97) they have little girls charm bracelets for like $2 or so,you could use those on your new crafty one!
DollarTree store has some on those ball chains for like $1
The ones on the second link -dome of them are plastic like ones I got from a Vegas suvounir shop for 10cents each, and the third one-they sell packages of those exact ones at Michaels.
Hope that helped a little!

By gadgetgirl On 10/16/02

this might sound really obvious but, try looking at toy stores for those charms (the Marc Jacobs ones)they kinda look like the stuff you might see on children's jewelry.
just a thought.

ps, thanks guys, I'm hoping to start selling my stuff very soon....

I'm not sure what I'll do to seal the pictures.
Have you seen the bottle cap frame in the Retro Revamp book? They suggest sealing the little pictures with casting resin, clear nail polish or glossy spray sealant. They also warn that some pictures like color copies might be vulnerable to toxic meltdown, so maybe seal the image with clear tape on the front and back?

By weezerdiva On 10/17/02

? i'm not sure what you mean by "toxic meltdown" .. but if you use polycryllic (hardware store) or matte/gloss medium (craft store) it will protect color copies superduper. i think inkjet prints will smear, though, if you put anything on them. they are pretty moody.

if you're worried about permanence, clear tape is a no-no. it will get brittle & also the adhesive usually has acid in it so it will eat away at the paper & image !

Saw the link about plastic army men as pins and the farm animals too and thought, why not use them as the charms?

By DeborahM On 10/18/02

Another one,key tags as the charms-I'm sure someone has thought of this befor but I work sometimes at an auto shop and I just happend to have one on my desk-ergo!
YOu could decorate with stickers, draw, glue stuff etc etc etc!!They even come in neon colors!

By SmudgyCat On 10/18/02

if you use farm animals for charms, you could probaly use some small eyelet screws and screw them into the back of the animal and then attach them to the bracelet with jump rings. maybe secure it wiht some e6000 glue too..

i can't believe the prices on those bracelets. i was made fun of for having charm bracelets...now it's cool. sigh. i'm always behind the times. :-D

By Annamal On 10/18/02

Farm animal charm braclet! Cute.. I want to make one. Right now I'm making a charm braclet out of gummi bears! I bathed them in verithane(sp?) last night and now they are nice and hard and sealed... And since I couldnt find a chain I made one out of small and big jump rings. I'm goin to stich those pins with the holes on the tops into their heads, and attach them with more jump rings. I'm hoping it turns out. I've been visualizing this for months!!

By pixielily On 10/19/02

farm animals, gummi bears, key tags...y'all are so creative! : )PLEASE let us know how the gummi bear bracelet turns out!

as for attaching the farm animals, maybe you could drill a tiny hole through them & use a headpin & jump ring...you could add a bead or two to the headpin if ya wanted. (i may have to do this one...i liked the farm animal pin idea...i LOVE the charm bracelet!)

key tags...paper circles with metal rims? hmmmm...i can imagine all sorts of crafty, charming possibilities! but i'm wondering, could they be made waterproof? i'm terrible about getting wet up to my elbows every time i get near a sink!

: )

By starxduzt On 10/19/02

gummi bear bracelet! I've been wanting to make one for like 2 years but I've had no idea how to seal it. where do you buy that stuff at?
