Wuzzled's long hair post made me wonder what you guys prefer both personally and in general. I've been growing mine out for the last few months and it's in that dumb middle stage where it just hangs there, and I'm this close to cutting it all off again.

Mine's about shoulder length now. I'm not doing anything with it until April. Then, i might cut it for basic.

I said this not too long ago...I always get tons more attention with shorter hair. From a buzz to shaggy and cute to bob with bangs. I think it's because it looks better on me, not because of any male preference. I suppose, in general, they like long hair. But I've always dated guys who prefer short or don't care.

my hair is medium-shortish, but shorter in back. i have a reverse mullet. just kidding... it's just that i'm trying to grow my hair out, and it gets all curly and weird in back, while the front stays fairly normal, so i have to have the back layered up. i cut all my hair off to an inch last november in a fit of weirdness, and now i'm just waiting for it to be decent again. i had waist length or longer hair until i was 13 or 14, and i've had enough of that. i have very thick hair, so it takes half a bottle of shampoo to get it clean and then takes a day and a half to dry. and it weighs a ton.

i think guys just like it when a girl looks "softer." society has this notion that if you wanna be "edgy" you have to cut your hair off. i personally feel that a person with their hair short appear more confident and honest because they don't have their hair to hide behind. and i love the idea of taking a shower in the morning and my hair being mostly dry by the time i walk out the door.

About two months ago I had waist long hair extensions. I got them because I was tired of waiting for my just-past-the-shoulder length hair to grow. I was miserable. It's such a bitch to take care of long hair, and I hate how it covers half your body in this itchy mass or fur. I spent a whole night taking them out by myself rather than waiting a few more weeks to go to the salon (good-bye to the $150 I spent) but it was worth it.

grace: yes please! i've lived in la for two years and i've resorted to supercuts one too many times because i can't find a decent, fairly inexpensive stylist in the area!

I have about shoulder length hair...I got it cut about a month 1/2 ago...It's a little bit choppy and I have long bangs...It's hard to explain but I had the stylist incorporate 5 different styles into one and it looks awesome...I get bored easy though...I would LOVE to have short shaggy hair but I look terrible with short hair.

Right now my hair is relaxed..i've had it this way for about a year now. I sort of want to go back to having a cute little afro but i'm not sure if thats gonna work because of my relaxed hair but i'm willing to try. I read sa quote somewhere a while back that said something like "at one point in their life, everybody should shave their head"...lol, I guess this is about the closest i'll get. I'm a little weary because I know how a lot of guys like long, flowing hair on girls and many of them say it looks sexy in the morning and they can play with it etc..but for once i'd like to be able to wash my own goddamned hair; right now I go to the hairdresser ever 2 weeks to get it washed and blowdried and that money is adding up. The way I see it anyways, I can do way more stuff if I have my natrual fro...wash it, make it smell the way I want, color it without having to worry about it falling out..and in 2 years i'll be off to college so I need something that I can actually manage :P

I'm doing the grow-it-out too, and it's making me a little bit crazy, but I want it over my ears and neck for winter. I had very long hair for most of my life and it's really not that low maintenance in retrospect. I second your observation about the quality of guy long/short hair attracts - I get the same amount of attention, but from a different type (seems like a lot of jocks like the short hair too).

My hair's just past chin length right now. I just got it cut maybe 3 weeks ago, and the girl did yucky things with it. It's really thick, but not in the pretty way and gets pretty damn huge sometimes. Wait, I meant all of the time. So yeah, she basically refused to layer it for me at that length, yet angled it really short (just past my eyes) in the front. Then she put a huge squirt of wax in it to hold it down.

It's kinda funny how attached I can get to my hair, scary at the same time though. I had, up until last week, hair down to my mid-back. Now it's around my ears in choppy layers. I love it. It's kinda nice to have a style. Takes longer than a bun though, kinda sucky. I do this whole funky thing where I grow my hair out long and then cut it short. Long...short. It's a vicious cycle. My husband says he likes it both ways. Right answer. Don't you just love the feeling you get for weeks after cutting your hair? Ahhh, happy.

i was growing out my hair for about 6 mos earlier this year before i buckled and chopped it off again. it almost got down to my ears and then i realized that, while i had great long hair, it's not for me anymore. my hair is now about 1" on top and may 1/2"-1/4" everywhere else. my barber (well, he's at visible changes so i guess he's a *stylist*) cuts all of it with a razor... i used to have it shaved at a 2 everywhere except up top, but the razor adds more texture and is less defined... so i don't feel so militant (in the military sense, not the lesbian sense). i also run a highlighting mousse through it to lighten it up a bit.

I love long hair. Short hair looks super cute on some girlz, but it just makes me look like a man.

I go through phases. | |

i dislike long hair unless it's really nice, healthy, shiny, well-cut and well-groomed. then it can be absolutely stunning. i would like to try growing mine out, but i don't have the patience. and i like my choppy chin-length amelie-esque cut. much to my amazement, i get complimented a lot. not bad for someone who's been cutting her own hair since 1996!*

oh mollie! I totally agree. I've pretty much mastered the home cut (and I've actually got the amelie-esque cut as well, with out the short bangs, mine sweep across my forehead) just so that I can justify it to myself when I buy lots of styling products. An ex-boy of mine used to refuse to let me go down the beauty-product isle when we went grocery shopping because I'd be there for an hour!

I'm another one caught up in the long/short cycle. I think that I always have been - even in grade school. The most dramatic haircut I ever got was during winter break my junior year of college. I went from waist-length to Winona Ryder circa Girl,Interrupted in a single afternoon. My hair dresser loves my hair short and actually thanked me for letting her cut it so short that day! I like having short hair right after I get it cut, but my hair grows too fast for me to keep up with getting trims to keep the style.

My mom used to have long black Cher hair and I only wished that I could have that, but instead I got my dad's thick thick wavy frizzy hair.

I prefer to have my hair in a pixie cut (about 1" long) because:

SS- I have hair like yours. It's so friggin' annoying! I haven't seen that commercial, but I'm very intrigued.

oldskool- I have naturally curly hair that is curly in some places and wavy/straight/frizzy in others. I've gotten perms before, though not for years, and yeah, they do kinda make the hair over-all equal in curlyness. However, if your hair is already frizzy the perm might dry it out. You'd want to have it professionally done, I'd think. Also, to keep my hair from looking like a frizzy mess I always use paul mitchel leave in conditioner and keep my hair cut short, so there's less chance of it getting long and dried out. =)
