Topic Wine Bottle Incense Burner Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

hi, again.
i TOLD you i would be asking lots of questions!

here's something else that i KNOW would be easy to make. every couple of weeks, i go to the local flea market and buy incense. the vendor also sells burners made out of wine bottles. they are REALLY simple--there's a hole cut at the base of the neck, which allows air to flow freely.

they've been painted in swirly, marbley looking colors (this i don't really care about--i would either etch it with a stencil and etching cream, or paint with glass paints).

my question to y'all is: could i use a handheld glass cutter and make a perfect hole without shattering the bottle? if so, how then do i smooth the inside edges? i wish i could say that my (male) friends are intelligent enough not to stick their fingers in the hole, but...well...

any help would be appreciated.

thanks, afrodite

No, you need to use drill and a special glass cutting bit. Fill it with with water, then cork it, use WD-40 to lubricate the glass, wear safety goggles, and be careful.

I started a thread on the same subject last week, so you can learn from my mistakes! Wine bottles are thick and recalcitrant!

have fun,
