so i saw this girl who had her jeans patched up in a star shape. and i thought, "hey, i can do that with my favourite jeans with the hole in them."

ah! wrong!

so, can someone hold my hand and guide me through the simplest of simple sewing tasks?

Just cut a star shape out of denim and sew it on =) Or maybe like cut a star shape around the hole in your jeans and put a square of denim inside the leg(or wherever the hole is) and sew around the star to hold in the patch. Hope I helped =)

yeah.
the problem isn't that. the problem is that i can't sew!!!!
i mean, i'm sticking my hand up a pant leg and trying to pin on the material smoothly...ugh, so frustrating.

any tips?

keep in mind that you don't actually have to have a hand on the inside of the pants to sew on the patch. use the needle to go in (through the patch and then through the pants) and then bring it out again. (if this is completely obvious to you, i apologize.)

Have you tried the iron-on patches? They come in lots of colors and are big enough that you can cut a shape out of the patch. They sell them at a lot of drugstores, on that little rack with the sewing supplies. I've also seen them at craft and sewing stores.

or get some fabric glue, and glue on the star to your jeans. then use the needle and thread to sew it down.

thank you! all of this has been helpful--and none of it has been too obvious, as i'm really inept.

:P
