last week i observed that most of the books on my shelves have either old receipts or fortune-cookie fortunes jutting out of them, and in an effort to find another use for clear packing tape, i started making clear bookmarks by cutting a long strip, placing cute stickers, mag. pics, and paper cut-outs on the tape, and then folding the long strip in half (end to end, sticky side in) and voila! personalized funky bookmarks. (you could even sprinkle some glitter on the tape before sealing it in, or cut out letters of a person's name to personalize). i'm very excited about this project, just wanted to share! :-)

In a book that I got at the library 2 weeks ago (it's due tomorrow) there was an old library card in it. It had expired in 1998, which was probably the last time it had been checked out.

I seal my cookie fortunes in packing tape, and thats what I use for bookmarks, sometimes I get a little more adventurous and write something onto dried leaves and then 'contact' them for book marks too, they are my favourite ones

hmm, it seems like post its are favourable to school books, but I have a few special ones: i used duct tape to make a little strip of "paper" and then coated it with glittery clear nailpolish, i punch star-shaped holes through it, and then place a picture of someone special (hah! not revealing my secrets so soon...) on transparency paper onto it..it makes it look very neato! i love it and everyone in my history class has tried to steal it!

I dog-ear the pages. Bad thing to do to library books,my Marmie always yells at me for it too. Lately I've been *trying* to put a slip of paper in there though. Those tape bookmarks sound cute!

I use whatever is flat and within my immediate grasp. This usually ends up being the book store receipt or the library receipt. I also use clothing tags quite a bit. Once I used just a clear piece of packing tape folded in half. Putting pretty things inside sounds like a good idea! I will have to make one and see if I actually use it.

I make bookmarks of laminated photo collages.

I use bits of cotton or wool. Or even receipts. I have a knitted purple and green glittery bookmark which is nice. I have a collection of bookmarks, collected by my Mum but they are too precious to use.

i either dog-ear or use random perfume samples I found at the bottom of my bag from the last time my mum and I went to Filene's in search of free things....

My 16 year old daughter & I both totally crush on Eddie Izzard,(I saw him first!) she just called me today all hysterical b/c she's misplaced her copy of dressed to kill & she wants me to make her another tape by the weekend b/c she just put a TV/VCR in her room & wants to invite friends over to laze in bed & watch Eddie Izzard. Damn, but I was never that cool.

I use...Bookmarks... | |

I use strips of cloth to tie up my cookie bags I sell at the market in town. These strips are about 18" long so there's room to spare in most books. I tied knots in both ends and stuck it into a book and it's been in use ever since.

i use flyers cut into strips or postcards. i've made a few bookmarks from card or paper leftovers , decorated with pens or stickers
|
|

I use post-it notes of all sizes depending on the book, from the regualr size squares to the rectangular flag ones. I like the really bright ones the best. I use them so that I can jot notes down whilst I read.

|
|
I have bookmarks, but more often than not I end up just sticking in a piece of toilet paper to save my place. Unused, of course.
|

This thread totally inspired me; last night I went though the huge folders of things I've saved from magazines and went through chosing my favourite small images and then 'laminated' them with several layers of packing tape. I did rice paper, native american pottery, pin-up girls, butterflies, roman busts, elephants...everything! It was so much fun and now I have awesome bookmarks for all my million+1 school books.
